So there's been a few threads about motivation (self and otherwise) and I was wondering if the folks who started those threads have had any success?

I know I sure as hell didn't

Lets have a beer.

No seriously.

I've definitely found ways to motivate myself. Actually got hold of some audiobooks on the topic and been getting into them and it's made a change in how I see things.

Downloaded a few clips from Youtube and I've been watching/listening to them for sometime. Will be cancelling my DSTV from next month.

Which ones?

If I wasn't able to play the newest games on my PC or browse the Internet, it would have helped my motivation greatly to do more work at home.

But as it happens, in the afternoons I flop down in front of my PC and waste a good couple of hours there.

Well...what do you want motivation to do?

Learn a new skill? Quit an addiction? Get in shape? What?

As with all things you get people that can just decide one day, "I'm doing this. Anyone and anything getting in my way better **** right on off". Those people can just push through anything. Others need a reason. You don't just need to know the what and how, but the why. If you don't have the why you will give up when you get discouraged.

You sound like someone falling into the latter category needing a good reason. Find one and when the going get's tough, think of the reason why you started. If that does not keep driving you...your reason was not worth ****.

So you procrastinate on the internet by watching youtube videos about motivation?

In the past I read a lot of self-help books and found no value in that. Some books contradict others.

If you want to motivate yourself to clean out a blocked drain, then just bear the smell for a few days, walk through the crap and dirt. You will be motivated or you will call a contractor.

If you want to motivate yourself to read a book, then set the stage, get the bottle of wine and a blanket, settle down and start reading. If after the first 3 or 4 chapters you do not enjoy the book, quit trying.

If a buffalo is chasing you, run mate ... as fast as you can. Motivation kicks in very fast in such situations.

I think you're right.

To me there's no real reason to do anything really. It's like, for example, I want to get in shape and I know how (buddies of mine are personal trainers/been to several + have done the whole thing before), but when I consider actually doing it, I'm like... "meh, whatever"

I guess it stems from my bi-polar schitzo (I'm sure others will be able to remember more names they called me) stuff.
