The 2016 season will be the 68th edition of the MotoGP™ World Championship and will run over 18 Grands Prix in four continents and fifteen different countries. After preseason tests in Sepang, Philip Island and Losail the first race will be held in Qatar on the 20th of March, starting an eight-month battle for the title, concluding in Valencia on the 13th of November.

Over 20 riders from 12 teams and five manufacturers (Yamaha, Honda, Ducati, Suzuki and Aprilia) will form the 2016 MotoGP™ grid. Spain, with nine riders, is the country with the greatest representation. Italy (four) and the UK (three) also have a strong presence in the premier class, both with proud racing histories. Germany, San Marino, Australia, Ireland, Colombia and France also have at least one rider permanently on the 2016 grid. At just 21 years old, Australia’s Jack Miller is the youngest rider of the field while Valentino Rossi, at 37, continues to challenge towards the front even as the oldest rider.

We could have seen Stoner beating Marquez last season but Marquez vetoed his return because he was scared.

.... here is something for Casey's fans :-

October Sepang race, fastest Ducati was Dovi in 5th with a fastest lap of
2.01.493.
February Sepang test, fastest Ducati was Stoner in 5th with a fastest lap of
2.01.070.

Maverick Vinlaes was fastest last night. Could be 3 contenders this season.

I loved some of the riders' reactions to that.

Here are the opinions of some of Casey Stoner's former rivals, plus new boss Gigi Dall'Igna, after the Australian's impressive MotoGP return as a Ducati test rider at Sepang.

The 30-year-old double world champion, who retired at the end of 2012, set the fifth best lap time on the final day of official testing and was also the fastest Desmosedici rider.

Jorge Lorenzo: “First Ducati rider - not bad after several years fishing! Obviously this track he likes, it is one of the favourites for Casey, but Iannone is not slow. He is one of the fastest riders and he is behind. Andrea [Dovizioso] also has a lot of experience and likes Sepang and is behind also. So it demonstrates that Casey didn't lose the talent and speed.”

Valentino Rossi: “First of all, it is very good to see the lap times like this [on the timing screen]; Lorenzo, Rossi, Marquez, Stoner, Pedrosa - everybody. This is very good for the championship. Already the level is very high but with Stoner he has more potential that can come, but he was very fast. I think he wants to race but I don't know if it will happen.” [Stoner denies he plans to race].

Cal Crutchlow: “Casey is Casey. He is an incredible rider and probably the fastest of the last decade, give or take. He and Marc are the two guys you'd look at for sheer speed. I didn't expect him to be any less fast than he was.

“He knows how to ride a motorcycle. Sure, having a year off is not easy. I wouldn't want to come back and be thrown in the deep end, but for sure he's an incredible rider. In my eyes it wasn't going to be anything different. He wasn't going to be doing 2m 7s.

“He's ridden motorcycles all his life and he's natural at it. I didn't expect anything less. He's certainly shown everyone that his speed is still there, no doubt about that, imagine if he did another three or four tests and a race. He's going to be there. I can guarantee that. It was good to see him back.”

Gigi Dall'Igna (Ducati): “It's really easy [working with Casey]. His feedback is really good since the first day. We prepared some test list for the first day but frankly speaking I didn't expect him to do anything; just try to work on the set-up and to give him the right feeling on the bike.

“At the end of the first day we finish completely the test list and this surprised me. I didn't expect this. He's confident with the bike and the tyres. This is only his third day with the bike...

“Frankly speaking I expected this [speed] from Casey. He is fast. This is not strange news!”

I am done with Marc
Valentino Rossi feels MotoGP rival Marc Marquez 'betrayed' him last year and the damage done to their relationship is irreparable, as the pair gear-up to meet on track again next weekend.

Two of the sport's biggest stars famously clashed several times during the 2015 world championship, their rivalry exploding at the pre-event press conference for the Malaysian MotoGP when Rossi accused Marquez of intentionally blocking him at Phillip Island to try and help the Italian's title rival Jorge Lorenzo.

Rossi and Marquez then tangled on track at Sepang, resulting in the Italian being handed a back of the grid penalty for the season finale in Valencia. The nine-time world champion was unable to chase down the leaders in Spain, which allowed team-mate Lorenzo to win the race (just ahead of Marquez) and take the world title.

After a winter to allow tensions to settle the pair are set to recommence their battle on-track at the 2016 season opener in Qatar next weekend, but Rossi feels he can never be friends with Marquez again after being 'tricked' by the Spaniard.

“After what happened we can no longer have a relationship,” Rossi said in an interview with Italian publication Gazzetta World. “However, we must be opponents on the track, for some years I hope, and we have to respect each other. That is important.”

The Doctor, who recently claimed his controversial pre-Sepang outburst was an attempt to prompt Race Direction to intervene, added:

“More than anything I allowed myself to be tricked by Marquez. He really betrayed me. He said he was a fan but those were all lies. I almost believed him and I was ready to have a rivalry with him, giving 100 percent on the track, but those were all lies on his end. At Assen I realised he was only my friend when he beats me.”

Lorenzo takes pole in record time , Rossi blasts teammate

Lorenzo commented that Rossi's decision to re-sign was easier since he had no other options. Rossi responded to rumours that Lorenzo may leave Yamaha for Ducati by saying 'changing bikes takes balls, so he will remain'.

Just hours after re-signing for Movistar Yamaha, Valentino Rossi found himself tangling with team-mate and reigning MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo.

The pair crossed paths during final practice for this weekend's Qatar season-opener, Rossi immediately gesturing his frustration to Lorenzo at being held up. The arm-waving then continued at the end of the session, as they lined-up to do a practice start.

“He exited from the pit without looking at the track and when he arrived at the first corner he tried to slow down, but he was on the line,” Rossi explained. “The problem is that I say 'why?' and I expect 'sorry', but he [look] to me like 'what you f**king want?'

Rossi needs to stop the whining now. The two Spanish slime balls screwed him over last year, pretty much everyone can agree on that, but bringing it up at every turn is not going to help.

Ugh, Iannone you knobjockey! Double podium on the cards for the Ducatis and he makes a half arsed attempt at a pass with one corner to go! Wonder what happened to Rossi after the bike swap. All over Marquez and then after the swap, nowhere! Lucky to get a second place.
