MotoGP 2023

Meanwhile, in Moto2, a less than auspicious 3 day test for Binder Jr. In the bottom half of the top 20 for most of the sessions. He did finish the last session in P9, but almost a second off the pace and there were only 14 runners. Looks like it may be a long season for him if that pace carries over to Sunday's races.

A good season for him would probably be a few top 10 finishes, less than 5 crashes and beating his teammate on a regular basis.

It's ...
RA WE
CE EKend !

I see the race starts at 3pm. Hope that isn't going to be the norm for the European races this year as it will clash with F1 on those weekends when there is both. Hopefully Dorna and the FIA have this worked out already.

DSTV broadcasting FP1 and 2 today, don't think it's ever happened.

Ok, so just to clarify.... ?
Longer P1 and P2 on Friday, determining Q1/Q2
No more P3, still a FP before Q1/Q2
Q1/Q2 determining grid for Sprint on Saturday and Race on Sunday

Unlikely that Pol Espargaro will race this weekend. His injuries look quite extensive. From MotoGP.com

Pol Espargaro suffered a big crash in Friday's Practice 2 of the Grande Prémio TISSOT de Portugal, with the session red-flagged and the Spaniard taken to Faro hospital for further examination.

MotoGP™ Medical Director Dr. Angel Charte offered a first update on Espargaro's condition:
"Pol Espargaro has had a high-intensity crash and suffered multiple traumas. To determine the extent, he will need to be evaluated via further examination at Faro hospital, specifically his spine," Dr. Charte explained.

Espargaro did not lose consciousness at any point and is perfectly fine neurologically, with no neck injuries.

UPDATE: Espargaro's injuries have been confirmed, with #44 suffering a pulmonary contusion, jaw fracture and a fractured dorsal vertebra. We will bring you more news as we have it.

I'm sure BB has more in the tank for P2 than this last place :( (more than 2 sec of the pace) AlexM looking good on his new wheels....

So it seems from listening to the commentators yesterday that he may still be feeling the effects of a big crash at the preseason Portimao test. Sounds like there is still some stiffness in the neck which makes it difficult to look up when he is in the process of cornering. At a track like Portimao with severe undulations and high speed corners, that will be a major obstacle to overcome.

I'd like to see him do well, but I'm honestly not expecting much from him this weekend. Miller on the other hand seems to have found some pace, so he may be flying the KTM flag this weekend.

Damn... Is MM93 back?

Lol @ EB dragging him past Pecco

Haha, I think he's close but that pace was deceiving. He was definitely helped around by the Beast. He also needed Mir's help in Q1 for that lap time. Not sure he'll be able to sustain it over the full race distance tomorrow. Sprint might be a different story.

Kudos to Jack as well. Showing that the KTM has pace! He'll be one to watch later today.

Thriller Miller.... So that KTM isn't half bad neh

Pecco Perfect in Portimao

I could get with these sprint races

Pity for Brad. He had a good start and was up to 10th after a few corners but I think he got tagged as I saw his name tumble down the timing tower to 15th or 16th

Another possible long term injury. Enea Bastianini ruled out of tomorrow's race with a fractured shoulder blade after his collision with Luca Marini in the sprint race. Not sure if a replacement will be called up as yet.
