I think its a little off...

Your Alfa Romeo GT 3.2 V6 Distinctive Coupe with a mileage of 40000km has an estimated book value of:

R0

The estimated trade in value of your car is between:
R0 - R0

The estimated retail value of your car is:
R0 - R0

Wonder how you come to this conclusion

Insurance is not allowed to screw you in that case. There is a set value attached to cars and the Insurance Ombudsman will check to see that the correct value is applied in each case.

You should be paid out the price that the car was worth prior to the crash, and that should lie somewhere between Trade and Retail in the Dealer's book.

You only need worry if you insured your car with the shebeen owner on the corner. Insurance companies are forced to stick to certain rules in these circumstances.

The damage to the car is not much it is only because of the airbags that activated that they wrote the car off, do you think it is worthwhile to buy the car back from the insurers and having it repaired myself?

The fact that the airbags blew, meant that it was hit at a particular angle, and I stand corrected on this, but if it is just the airbags that are prohibitive, I would buy the car from them and fix it myself...sounds crazy!

the reason they scrapped the car apparently is because of the airbags that cost about R40000 each to replace and the car is valued at R148000 that is the reason they gave. Can a person buy those airbags and will a body shop be able to replace them quite easily?
The only thing bothering me is that the car only has 10100Km a still a four year service plan left and the car had to be towed to a special Honda approved Body repair center and that the service contract will fall away if it is repaired else ware .

If they scrap the car you won't have to worry about the service plan anyway :p

This whole airbag thing sounds crazy...I certainly cannot see a car being scrapped because of it. Personally I would contact the guys at Honda and find out if airbags really cost that much...you might have just fallen with your face in an insurance scam, because it would be very nice to get hold of an almost new Honda...do not allow the car to be scrapped until you have spoken to somebody that you trust at Honda...that's my advice!

From a previous thread - not sure how accurate!

They don't have any Opels

No the car is code 3, no point wasting your time & money, it's going to be worthless after you spent all that money repairing it. Only idiots buy code 3 cars imho.

I phoned the insurance co. yesterday and they increased the payment to me from R148000 to R160000. also spoke to owner of a repair shop and he said he estimated that the repair cost would be in the region of R103000 so don't know if i should take the chance to have it repaired or rather accept the R160000?
