Nice, according to that link posted earlier:

Your 2009 Honda Civic 1.8 VXi VTEC 5-dr with a mileage of 15000km has an estimated book value of:
R258,866

The estimated trade in value of your car is between:
R209,034 - R231,038

The estimated retail value of your car is:
R282,811 - R312,580

So if I do a private sale of the car right now, I could walk away with a few grand in my pocket! :D

I was going to say, take the money and run, until I saw what the book value of the car is...who are they trying to kid??! Amazing how quickly they moved their payment from 148 t0 160...sounds very fishy to me. Does it even cover what you owe on the car?

Time to take off the gloves!

They only value the car the sound system has to be insured and claimed for separately under the all risk section.

That is the best thing to do and selling it separately or if you are selling privately negotiating with the buyer.

This whole airbag thing sounds crazy...

The whole airbag thing is pretty crazy... don't forget that the airbag itself is not even half of the whole mechanism, you have the gas canister doohickey that physically deploys them and all of the electronics that go along with that.

...totally agree with your comments RE: insurance though, they often seem far too keen to write off.
