Interesting! Something I am sure the broker in question will try not to divulge as to why one's premiums might have increased substantially in the last re-rate evaluation!!If a brokers book is burning they will get increases on their book and could be across the portfolio not only claimants.
Auto & General is 30% cheaper than Santam...and Santam is 50% more than Auto & General.I'm going through a broker and have insisted on doing everything to bring the price down. Still, 30% more than A&G (R950 vs R650).
The advice is that I should stay with Santam. Something tells me there is extra commission from them.
Santam division is not doing too well financially. It seems across the board they don't pay the panelbeaters on time. Always pay months behind when they do eventually pay.
A&G has a pretty bad record in my opinion and they run several other insurance companies.
Santam and Mutual Federal are the only ones I feel comfortable with.
Actually Santam is one of the very few which made a profit for the year 2013-2014. They are in the process of going onto a new IT platform and that could be a cause. Santam is the most financially sound short term insurer in SA.
Weather (whether) you go direct to Santam or through a broker the cost is the same.
Me personally, I would stay away from anything offered by them. I would go through a short term broker. Please may I get your thoughts on this?.

They own Mi-way - enough said.
Those VAP (value added products) are very limiting and your chances of getting something worthwhile is minimal. The repairers on the list are also cr@p and basically just use mixed touch up paint. If you are not a perfectionist or if you really "love your car" then this isn't for you.
Thanks, I'll rather pocket the R99 per month and save up for minor repairs every year or so. Generally very careful though. Touching wood.
I can't comment on this as it's blocked at work, but gathering from the posts that followed it's some kind of scratch and dent policy. I took a 2 year policy from a company/product called Smart Insurance back in 2011. It was worthwhile and really easy to claim. Yes, there was a limit of around 2k per claim but that is fine when it comes to small scratches and dents. Please may I get your thoughts on this?
