Hi All,

So I am in the process of getting my bike, but getting insurance is such a pain since I get declined for only wanting to insure my Motorbike and nothing else.

I got a quote for R3 881.05pm that is just ridiculous. Could anyone recommend insurance companies I could contact?

I understand that my insurance will be a bit more expensive due to me only having a learners but the insurance actually being more expensive than my instalment is quite insane.

The bike is a 2018 Kawasaki Z900 ABS

Thanks

Ask for a quote including the bare minimum household content insurance....even if you have nothing. Usually that sorts it out.

Otherwise try Ironhorse, Bikeline or QE Brokers who will insure it stand alone.

Quite honestly that is not the right bike to start with and explains why your insurance premium would be sky high as you are in fact a high risk and would be insured accordingly.

I'm with http://omnirisksolutions.co.za/
They specialise in bike insurance and even host track days, not that i bother.
My insurance is just over R600 for a brand new Honda NC750X DCT that i have had for almost 4 years now.

Before this i have never had insurance in my life, i only have my bike insured through them.

Im with outsurance and have had very good service from them. Just insuring my bike for around R300 a month.

Whats your age? Under 25 driving a 900c bike is going be a very high risk for the insurance company.

I am 27, I understand that I will be high risk, and am prepared for insurance to be a bit expensive, but the one quote I got is just insane...

Thanks for the advise, I am aware I will be high risk, but was not prepared for a quote that big, I will get in touch with the suggestions you made, thanks a lot

A 900cc japanese inline 4 is going to be a high risk.

A 900cc twin probably wouldn't.

Just want to correct the opinion that all big capacity bikes are scary and shouldn't be given to n00bs. The engine layout and where the power gets made has a bigger effect.

Oh that is odd then.

Some weird chinese plastic bike? Or a real bike?

Or just over 65?

Haha! Yeah. Good question. That's how I got outsurance to stop phoning me completely - by saying I just have a bike.

It's ultimately just the value they care about at the end of the day and that obviously goes up the higher capacity it is.

Sure there is a risk modifier involved in capacity but I doubt they care how many cylinders as they have brain dead logic when it comes to that.

I do however fully agree on the latter statement.

Real bike. Normal age. Nothing out of the ordinary.
Outsurance just quoted me R2600....ouch King price quoted me R1255 but something is telling me to not trust them to actually help if something happens...so not completely sure what to do haha

Yes but what is the value? What is "normal" age?

How long have you had your license?

Those things change everything.

For that kind of premium I would imagine it's a bike in the R70-80k region.

Z900 is almost double that in value, so looking at probably at least R700 for yourself to insure.

Way more for someone on a learners only.

Kawasaki versys 650 age at the time was around 23. R40k insurance value. I think there is a major risk curve above 650cc's. Whether or not that is based on reality is debatable, but the lady did tell me it starts getting expensive after the 650cc mark. My insurance has actually gone down since then.

Look for the value of the bike at R135k you are looking at about R600-R700 a month at the very least purely based on value.

Then add your personal risk profile to that and learner's only then you are looking at a much higher premium at most places or a very high excess at others.

So maybe consider getting your license first before buying the bike. OR opting for a different bike to start with that is lower in value and lower in risk.

Otherwise just suck it up and go for the R1255 option as it's not too bad all things considered.
