Motorcycle Replica Exhaust.

Hi there,

I am in the process of looking for a new exhaust. I ride a Kawasaki z1000sx. I wanted to know what you guys think of replica exhaust, for example a SC-Project Replica. Installation, pipes to extend and the cups go for R4500 and the welds and everything look great. Normally I don't like going for replicated or "fake" anything but to buy two slip ons (because my bike goes in to two exhausts and would cost way more to take it to one with a ECU flash) it would be like R13000 and for two Akras R23000. I don't have that type of cash. I mean for a good replica how different are they really? Except for the material. (If this becomes a big thread I'm sure that comment will cause an issue ;-) )

I mainly want them for the obvious reasons, to look good and to sound good but the main reason is so I can actually be heard. Loud pipes save lifes.

Do the replicas damage the bike at all? I mean I know so many people with replicas and they all seem to love them and they have no issue. This is just for my over thinking self.

There is no research proving this is true.

People who say "loud pipes save lives" have never heard of the Doppler Effect, and appear to think the sound from the exhaust is mainly projected forwards.

Yeah I know it's not like the moment I put loud pipes on people on the road can hear me just because of it been loud, but when lane splitting I can give it a little rev and more people will hear me more than what they will hear me now. Just because it will be louder not because the sound is projected straight at them. If you have music playing at a soft volume in one direction only a handful of people can hear it in any direction but put the music quite a bit louder a bunch load more people can head it in any direction.
 
I Agree.. loud pipes save lives.. just depends how you use it i guess.
Also.. aftermarket never a bad idea.. dont really know much about bikes to be honest.. shouldnt it just be exactly like a car exhaust.. so most exhaust shops should be able to take care of you :unsure:

I would like to do that at some point, but my bike is still under warranty and if I do that I might loose it. The place I bought it from only wants me to go to one of there shops... and they only have one shop. To get it removed or buy a new slip-on will cost a huge amount. I cant spend that type of money yet.

But like I said there are really good replicas, or cheaper pipes out there they I can afford and that lots of people use. Would you recommend something like that? They are just slip-ons and I will not loose my warranty.
 
Provided that the replica is produced from the correct materials I think you'll be fine. Obviously if its the wrong grade of stainless it won't hold up to the temperature variations over time, also some grade's suffer rapid fatigue if load bearing whilst temperatures vary. If they'll be willing to tell you what its produced from and what if any heat treatment its been through you can do some research to determine if it will stand the test of time.

Yeah that is what I was worried about but they seem to be very busy and alot of people have exhaust from this shop but I will ask and find out.

Maybe post some pics of their work...? then we can all judge perhaps..
or pics of what you want...
 
Loud exhausts work in traffic, I can hear them behind me. On the highway though, I hear them when they are next to me which is too late.

If safety is a concern (as it should be) then make yourself more visible to those in front of you. Wear those luminous yellow/orange jackets and ad some spots to the front of your bike. Every little bit helps. Unfortunately when it comes to bike and car having an accident, the rider normally comes off a lot worse than the car, so treat all road users as if they haven't seen you.

Just don't be a twat that drives around making all the dogs bark in the neighbourhood with your loud exhaust. Nobody is impressed by the noise you make.
