Was going thru some forum when i saw this

... if u have to extend the motor plan with time and not mileage its cheaper, But if u are extending it and need to go past the 100k mileage then they klap you with a crazy amount.

Any experiences...

most dealers stop at 5 years, and you can only extend the KM's on the motor plan.

I did 100K in 3 years, so i extended mine to 140K km's and i'll reach that by June next year. i could have extended it to (for example) 180K km's but once that 5year mark hits, i could have 40K km's left in the plan, but it's all wasted!!!

i just extended mine... i got to choose the mileage i wanted to extend to.. but its until either the mileage.. or a year passes... so you don't get much of a choice...

oh and you are only allowed to extend your motorplan twice.... i am assuming you talking about a bmw tho?

isnt it 7 years?
im in year 6 now, should have extended it when i got a quote in the begining of the year for about less than 10k for a year and 5k km
now they want 25k to extend by a year and 15k kms
madness

I know for a fact BMW allows extension of time and/or mileage. When I had my E36 (gud ol' days) I did very little mileage so I extended my time to 7 years and paid something like R1200.00.
Now the tables have turned and I do more mileage....I'm on 90K at 3 years with my Audi......So I added another 40K and paid R14000.00 for that. I don't think Audi allows time extension at all.

the earlier you extend the more options u have
when i was on 89k km i could extend time only
fast forward to 96k km - time and mileage only

Also look at Motorite and SA Warranties for 3rd party motorplans if the manufacturer won't come to the party.

Which car manufacturer are you referring to?

I considered it with the BM:
if miliage is on 85 000km for instance, you'll have to extend the kilometers to 105 000km as well which is more costly than extending time alone. This was the case with BM's 5yr 100 000km motorplan. But easy enough to just get a quote over the phone - it takes seconds.

From personal experience I'm extremely wary of any 3rd party warranties... They cleverly NEVER cover everything you need and in the end simply is a waste of time (and costs of calling) and money. They're just as bad as insurance companies find fault and loopholes as to not pay out...

when i renewed my contract with bmw, there was no option of mileage only, it might be based on what car you have perhaps? all of them were mileage.. or a year, whichever came first...

With audi its 5yrs max.
Bout 9k for 120k ext
and as said about 14k? for 140k ext

Be careful doing this with a BM

If you decide to let you motorplan lapse expect your resale value to drop significantly. BMW are quite clever when you getting close to the Motor plan running out the quote they give you are crazy and if you look at the cost implications its actually better to get another BMW rather.

Its happened to me twice with me 2 previous BMW's got close to 100k Km then got quote for R25k to up the motor plan. I got another BMW for the same price increase as adding the R25k to my finanace and that would have only giving me a year a newer car gives you at lot more than that
