i just came from the fleamarket and these guys are selling movie dvd's for R60and it has the latest movies on them and there are between 8 or 10 movies on a disc. Are they playable on a dvd player or do these ones play on your pc?

It will have a Dvix logo on machine if it plays divx. If it doesnt, check the box it came in.

there is no sign on the any of my players, ag it dont matter then. thanks for your help anyway.

thanks buddy.

You should think of investing in a divx player. One of the best investments i have ever made. Its not that expensive these days as well.

I paid R399 for my Phillips one, that was almost 3 years ago.

the two i have are ok for now as i dont watch so much dvd's anymore but i am glad you warned me cause we were looking on those dvd's for the game plan i am now glad they did not have it.

is it possible to make a copy of the original then play it on a normal dvd?

They are not DVD player playable, as you can only really fit max 2-3hours
of MPEG2 video on a dual layered DVD. They can be in DivX format and some
DVD players can play those, however there are different versions of
DivX out there and so some DVD players may not play them despite a DivX
certification. A PC or Mac is your best bet. Your DVD will be playable
though a player like Media Player classic or VLC as seperate files.
You'll be also able to CONVERT whichever video you want into MPEG2
format and then burn that to DVD to watch that normally on your TV.
However that is very bothersome and to me seems a waste of time.

ok so i can play them on my pc then but then i cannot post on the forum.

If your DVD player plays Divx, then yes they will play.

There are different versions of DivX too. And if the DVD is pirated, we don't know that they used a standard format, not to mention they audio is sometimes encoded using a non-standard codec. The films could also
be in XviD format which will probably not play in a DivX player.
They could also be in H264 or H263 form.

Generally all ''pirated'' movies are Xvid or avi's - they all play in a divx player.

The new divx players that are being sold now, play almost any type of format.

Actually, there are DVD's that hold 5 movies in a disc that can play in any DVD player..
They basically downloaded DIVX's and used to program to generate a menu etc.

So yeah, you can buy that DVD and it will play regardless if your DVD supports DIVX.

Source: I bought some :D

i was just worried about spending R60 on a disc with 6 - 10 movies on and they not gonna work on anything i have at home.

I disagree. Hardware DivX players are not always 100% compatible with the latest version of DivX. The best bet is to watch on a PC where you can download the latest codecs and read any file imaginable.
