Movie Mini-Review Thread - Part II

FYI, some interesting trivia regarding Yesterday.

1.) Himesh Patel did all his own singing and playing in the movie.

2.) The Beatles had zero input creatively, outside of approving of their music being used in the film. Director Danny Boyle stated in interviews that the film was "blessed" by McCartney and Starr, as well as the estates of Lennon and Harrison.

3.) Licensing the Beatles' music catalog proved to be relatively straightforward, since actors were performing the songs in the film and not the Beatles themselves.

4.) During the scene where Jack first performs "Yesterday," his friends claim that it is not as good as Coldplay. Ed Sheeran's role was originally meant for Chris Martin, the lead singer of Coldplay, who could not do it due to scheduling conflicts, so then it was offered to Sheeran. The joke was left in the script.

PS, I cannot stand Ed Sheeran so I wish it had been Chris Martin :D

Also loads more intersting facts about the movie, but with some spoilers here.

For some reason I watched the sequel long ago but only got to watch this last night. 8/10

721738

Hysterical black comedy where jaws just drop at the incompetence of these 'criminals.

Shades of Lock Stock... and Pulp Fiction.

Wonder Woman Bloodlines (2019) 5/10

First time in awhile I can remember a DC animated movie being this disappointing. I normally don't notice the dated animation style because the stories are so good - this time I found the time because I was so bored.

In the tall grass 6/10. Not too bad. Liked the ending. Different from the novella. For once the movie is an improvement on the book.
I think that's a fair review, reflects my thoughts too. I'm glad they took that direction for the end too. Saved it from being a bad movie, the 2nd act dragged on waaay too long.

The Art of Self-Defense (2019) 6/10

Dry dark comedy that has a few moments.
I made the mistake of reading the Wikipedia article on it. Someone copied the whole movie script there, making it pointless for me to watch it afterwards.

Joker - 8/10

Enjoyed this, it's edited down very well so it doesn't feel too long like many comic book movie adaptions. Does a great job at building up the character's roots and humanizing him.

Joaquin Phoenix's performance is what stands out the most, best joker yet.

The Lion King (2019) 7/10

Pretty much a shot for shot remake. Still really good mostly due to the narrative. Still preferred the score & song renditions of the 1994 classic. Excellent family watch.
