Gravity was awesome. 8/10. Very enjoyable, great 3d effects (kept flinching, definitely watch in 3D) and good acting. Some nerve wrecking moments. Will probably not watch it again though.
 
Gravity 3D - Intense! I literally held on to my seat... The Directed did this cool trick where most shots are long continious ones where the camera pans in and out over and above around and follows characters and objects on screen and also seamlessly move into a first person view shots. This gives an effect of floating to the viewer. The 3D dept was amazing and there's always stuff floating around on screen and because its in space the object pass by slowly. This movie is not ment to be watched on a TV or 2D so go check it out if you believe 3D is still just a gimmick. When i got up from my seat it felt like I was getting off a canaval ride. Gravity is not a movie..... it's an experience!

Gravity 8/10. Offers the illusion of weightlessness like no other visual medium has done before. It's also undoubtedly the best presentation of 3D thus far. Found myself flinching as space debris gets gets hurled at the screen.

The lack of sound heightens the tension and some scenes are utterly gripping.

Only gripe was the casting of Clooney and Bullock. Her comic roles lately made it difficult for me to relate to her character.

There's also some gratuitous scenes of her floating in a hot pants and vest which was er... distracting.

Movie was too short as well. Shots of the Earth from space was a sight to behold.

My edited version, I pretty much agree with all of this.


Only gripe was the casting of Clooney and Bullock. Her comic roles lately made it difficult for me to relate to her character.

I haven't watched her recent movies, so it had no effect on me.

Only disappointment is that I could not watch it in a cinema that had Dolby Atmos, seeing as we only have one in South Africa. But it was fantastic in 3D.

Gravity 7/10. No more, no less. The 3D was ok and created some nice effects (could just as easily have seen it in 2D TBH if you're not that into floating pens and water droplets in your peripheral vision) but the story was waaay too cliche for me to be able to enjoy it fully. There were some nice tense moments but not something I would watch again.
 
Gravity - torn between 9 and 10/10. Certainly the greatest survival movie made, perhaps the best special effects I've seen, completely nailgripping in parts; actually in most parts. There was just a lack of good characterization, and a lot of credulity stretching, that kept it from being an unequivocal 10 but it still puts the vast majority of effects based movies to shame.

The main thing it did was use special effects in a way that was useful - instead of throwing more and more extravagant visual spectacle it gave a sense of exactly what it is to be in space, completely vulnerable apart from a suit that offers a limited scope of survival. 3d was a crucial component instead of a gimmick. It was rigorously researched and filmed with bravura cinematography.

Gravity - 9/10

Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! The story is great, the effects are mind blowing and those first scenes with Earth in the backdrop and the sunrise/sunset scenes - beautiful!

There was one scene that felt a bit far fetched and out of place with the rest of the film. Also, you have to watch this in a theatre in 3D. I cannot see myself enjoying this film that much on my couch in front of my TV. So if you take anything from this: GO SEE IT NOW!

The Lone Ranger (2013)

Really enjoyed this movie. Lots of laughs. This movie isn't about The Lone Ranger but rather Tonto as Johnny Depp steals the show.

We're the Millers. 7/10. A few solid laughs but Anistons striptease steals the show.

The Purge. 5/10. interesting concept could've been a brilliant satire but ends up as a cheap scare slasher/ horror.

Really enjoyed this. I especially lolled when he De Niro said "...apart from having to write this ****ing book again" :D
 
Gravity 9/10

Brilliant cinematography, has to only be seen in 3D on the big screen. Want to go see it again.

How did South Africa get a release 2 weeks before us? That isn't right..

Thor 2 - 7/10 good pop corn movie, watched it in 3D but it didn't really add anything to the movie
