Movie Trailers Thread

The last few Terminator movies were quite bad, probably worse than the Matrix sequels. Indy movies same thing.
So are most remakes.

I think Hollywood are just trying to remake and redo the old stuff because the audiences have changed over time. It must be profitable if they keep doing it.
They are doing remakes because, to an extent, they are people that grew up with these IP's, just like most of us, and they are now in senior decision making positions.
Unfortunately they lack the life experiences of those that created the IP's in the first place, hence it's easier just to bastardise them.

It's profitable in that it has a built in audience that you can capitalise on, but they've effectively destroyed all their existing franchises and these movies are consistently doing worse at the box office.
There have been numerous instances where they lost a massive amount of money.
You can only rely on general audience's apathy regarding quality for so long.

I reckon the new audience has different standards to the older ones.

I'd rather say Disney is on a mission to produce crappy series/movies. They miss the mark more often than not.

Nah I haven't seen a single proper review about it that's above "meh". They really shot themselves in the foot with that horrible Cannes opening a month before theatrical release.
The plot and writing in general is just garage, essentially the Nazi's are the good guys and Indy being in the movie is irrelevant.
I'll give it props for taking the worst Indy movie crown from Crystal Skull, which I don't consider part of the original trilogy given how bad it was.

In terms of the box office it's also doing much worse than Crystal Skull in it's opening and that's without adjusting for inflation or ticket prices.
Chalk it up to another success for franchise destroyer Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
Next up Tomb-Raider.

A plot hole so big you can fit a car into it?

The problem with most movies is they are trying to be platforms for either base exploitation or blind activism.... and you cannot tell a good story that way. And that's ignoring the deconstruction revolution where men are being morphed into evil incompetants and woman into genius paragons.... until the next cycle catches up to them and all the nasty CIS people are actually Nazis in disguise.... oh and Jews will be evil again too.

What would you consider a critical lambasting?
At this point I believe most critics must be snorting crack from a carpet given how "high" they rate terrible shows. Case and point Willow.
I trust the audience ratings more, but there you have to take into account most don't usually know much about the franchise itself so they won't be as critical.

That said, I'd still watch any of the original trilogy movies before crystal and dial. It has more to do the the general tenor of the movie than anything else.
It's honestly so easy to create decent movies with an established character like Indy, so it's a surprise this is the best they can come up with?
Some of the Terminator sequels com to mind. Check both the Metacritic and RT rating.
Both audiences and critics did find it acceptable escapist fun.
That's all this franchise is supposed to be anyway.

The Critical Drinker lambasted this movie savagely. Won't waste my time with this.
Terribly sad to see the characters/movies we grew up loving being torn up and savaged by studios who have lost the plot in failing to do the one thing - entertain us.
I will watch it and make up my own mind. You should watch it too if you're an fan of the others. You might like it.

Of course I'm a big Indy fan but don't want to be disappointed either. I will wait for you guys to be the guinea-pigs and based on the ratings will decide to watch or not.

I think it's worth a watch if you're a fan. On the one hand it may be a disappointment but on the other, it's a last hoorah. Might as well see him off with some beers.

Without giving any spoilers, Indy pretty much starts the movie as an empty husk of his former self, much of it which doesn't make sense given what happens in the original trilogy, and he pretty much ends the movie in the same state.
Not exactly how someone that's a fan of the franchise would want to remember him as, even if you get to see some

Who was he before?
A thief who stole ancient stuff just so that rich white folk can admire them. ;)

A successful and popular professor and yes on top of that the profits for "stealing" :P
Now his apartment looks like those the writers of the movie live in
