What is the process here guys?

Have a domain name I have been using for email only and it died last week, along with all other contacts that I had for this "company".

@kayvee, is your email address the registrant contact? If yes and the domain is a .co.za domain on the new EPP system you can initiate a domain transfer to another hosting company and get it working again quickly. PM me if you need some assistance

Unfortunately not :( The email is from the supposed company that initially registered it, but I can't get hold of. Judging by the number of complaints on Hellopeter I am not the only one struggling.

I just want out. Last year I never got any renewal notices either, and end up paying it directly before they suspended it.

Yeah, one lives and learns.

Thanks Wayne and Hostking, I will try that route. They must have some resolution process for this.

Name and shame. It is important.

Give me 24 hours or so for me to have the updates accepted, and I will gladly do that :p

Fortunately my email address was registered, so it should be straight forward.

If you can get a signed Affidavit, indicating that you own the domain, you should be able to get Uniforum to update the contact details on the domain to your own, and the initiate a domain transfer. Look here for more info: http://co.za/legal-FAQ.shtml

Looks like it is almost sorted, thanks. Just have to wait out the 24 hours for the vote period, and my vote is in ;)

Dude's long since been banned from here and his threads/posts deleted, just some quotes remain.

Judging by the amount of pissed people from dealings with his related company on Hellopeter, he's a nasty piece of work, roll on justice.

Just to close off, all is done and dusted successfully, domains safely transferred without a hitch.

"Free Hosting" lesson learned :) Thanks for the input guys.

Really glad that we were able to help here. Sadly we see way too many people in this situation, so I would always recommend that client double check that domains are registered with themselves as the registrant so they can transfer away or to a new host without a hitch :)

Not so long ago Afrihost was one of the worst offenders when it came to using their own email address as the registrants email address of domains clients had registered with them. But I'm glad to see you guys no longer do this. There are still way too many ISPs doing this.

Yeah mweb haven't learnt, getting a domain from them is a nightmare. I must say Coza is quite useless at allowing a high profile company like mweb to do this...

I sure my complaint wasn't the first and also not the last.

It's not just ISPs. There are many well-known design agencies who register domains on behalf of their clients in the agency's name. You can guess what happens when the client tries to leave the agency.

Some of them honestly don't know that they are wrong, a quick call and a threat usually gets domains released.
