I'm moving house in a few months and would like to prepare before hand with ADSL.

I currently have ADSL and would like it moved to the new house on date X. Should I log a call with Telkom now and hope they don't move it earlier, or do I first wait till I move and then get them to move the line (and then hopefully not wait months while they move the ADSL)

Any suggestions?

Somehow I don't think that is going to happen. I think your best bet is to apply for ADSL activation at your new house and then just terminate the old one when you leave. Apply for the slowest one possible (384), then just upgrade when you move in.

Is upgrading the ADSL line speed also such a long waiting period.

Back on topic, IMO I would wait till I have moved in. When I tried to cancel my ADSL (other home) they said it would take 30days and I should fax a them a letter.

According to telkom themselves I've been waiting since mid-2006.

From what speed, bwana?

Is it the support on the exchange that has you limited?
From 512 - my exchange supports it - I've even had it myself for a few months (dunno why) and my line is syncing at 4096 so thats not the problem.

I've spoken to anyone at telkom I can think of. 10219 gives me a reference number that the ppl at 0800456786 or 0800375375 claim is not on the system. I've been at them everyday this week and they promise the upgrade in 24 hours

I'm going to have to contemplate doing this as well in a little while. Would like to see how this turns out.

I know having the DSL line in our current place taken out of someone else's name and put into mine was a huge hassle. Hopefully Telkom comes through with it this time round.

Upgrading, as far as I understand, is for all intents and purposes instant (ie within 24 hours).

Thanks for the comments - I get the feeling I'm going to be screwed over whatever I do. Also as you pay a month on advance for the cap I think I'm going to be R249 out while I wait a few weeks for them to install the dsl
