Moving back to SA

I just showed you someone else who agreed with my vibe. People (a plural) was accurate as has been proven. Person (a singular) would have been inaccurate. Its not arrogance to state the obvious.

Are you being disengenuous? You spoke on behalf of the people before he posted his comment. So you thought it your duty to ask on behalf of the people, that's what I'm calling arrogant.

Another personal attack? I think you are confusing arrogance with someone who doesn't care to listen to you telling them what to do.

I told you what to do cause you told me what to do. That's irony, you see.

Oh. You could further your education and get your matric, degree, then off you go to 1st world country.

Nope, I started work at age 15 after fleeing home/school from a neighbour, by age 22 I was raising a family, after 16 years of working I became a full-time parent and now I am dying and I am 45, but I made sure my children got a decent education so that they have choices.

ps: I am happy with my level of knowledge and other skills, I have studied all my life, it's a part of my culture to gather data and acquire knowledge, had things been different for me, I would have like to study photo journalism or psychiatry, I was encouraged to go study engineering after psychometric tests)
( I did study journalism through Unisa, and I have many other skills, but none with papers)

Why do you describe yourself as dying? I know you have cancer, but surely such defeatism is not good and might explain your attitude in the thread.

It is probably because foreigners have a distorted view of what life is like here.
How can they once they're living here? You'd expect them to run right back if it was as godawful as some people born here claim.

I personally know 4 europeans (a German couple and 2 Dutch guys) who have been here for about 5 years, and their attitudes have drastically changed since they got here.
Some of the guys I know did go back to their home countries. Then a within a year were back in South Africa. They all said they hadn't realised what they had here until it was gone.

There are more important things in life than "cost of living" and "an awesome climate"!
There are, and it's exactly that more to life aspect that brings foreigners here.

People staying want Africa to be better that is why they fight the sick system.
That's actually sad for the countries to which the people who leave South Africa go. They're not getting the fighters, the people who won't stand for rot in the governments of those countries, but people who'll accept whatever the government tells them in exchange for a nice plush cell.

Then we have to say there is people that go just because you can go and come back. I would love to live in diffrent countries. Probably the explorer in me. :) Why the hell not. Its not as if we have to endure Scurvy anymore :D

edit: I only know people like this.

You know people with scurvy ?:D

Wow, been away for a few days so need to pick this up again. So let's try to get this discussion back on track and stop with the mud-slinging :)

It's obvious that people feel different towards the current situation in SA, some are growing more positive by the day and some more negative, just one of those things. I've also noticed that peoples attitude differs greatly depending on their location WITHIN SA.

A lot of friends/family in Gauteng tend to be either neutral or growing more negative, where as people living in the Western Cape tend to be more positive? People that has recently moved down from Gauteng to WP tend to be more positive too.

Is that a fair statement?

That sounds fair. But I know many in Jo'burg who love it too.

Remember, since you're asking this forum, it very much depends what sub forum they frequent. Example, 90% of those who participate in Current Affairs will give you a negative idea of SA. Special note needs to be made that 90% of the articles they read are negative, anti ANC, etc. Such freedom of press unfortunately results in this sort of thing, painting a false picture of Western govts in their minds, etc.

I had chemo this morning, and was about to go sleep when I got embroiled in this thread, and it shows, I was quite irritable, impatient and feeling the pressure of the 'what felt like a lynch mob' in the thread at the time, mentioning it was childish. I do feel defeated at times- that is the truth.. but I'm generally in good spirits and not at all a defeatist.

All I can say is that people who have never lived (not a vacation) in a functional country, do not have the experience or the knowledge of how pleasant it can be, when society & government functions as it should.

South Africa has a very dysfunctional society and government, but the people here do not realise it, as it is all that they know.

If you are an individual who has high standards, and someone who enjoys an academic or intellectual slant on life, then South Africa will disappoint.

South Africa will remain a political hotspot for decades to come. Why do I say this ?

- very high rate of academic failure
- indoctrination continues by the ruling party
- corruption and theft in government
- hatred/dislike towards whites will eventually extend/shift or will re-focus with hatred for Coloured and Indians and foreigners (because whites as a minority are shrinking to the point when Coloured and Indian minority groups are bigger groups.)
- the masses of unemployed want the jobs they are not educated for and will hold it against those who studied and got the job
- public transport is unreliable, often dangerous and limits the movement of citizens in the country
- the whole country locks down after dark out of fear of crime
- many parks, picnic spots, hiking trails, dams, seaside & river spots - the fantastic outdoor style is no longer safely accessible due to criminal activity

Make no mistake, you are not wanted here, and if have you a choice to leave or stay, remember that if you choose to stay, as a white - you will always have a target sign on your chest, and always be referred to as a racist white, whether you are racist or not, because that it the nature of living in South Africa.

It you can live with a constant level of abuse, lowering of standards and a general population and government who despise your race, then take good care of yourself and be careful, because this is a dangerous country on a slippery slope to eventual economic failure.

Exactly how I see it. If only I had the means to ship off with my whole family to aus....

I did not know about this. But that's good to hear. Please stay strong and positive. :)

Understandable. Keep up the +spirit you certainly do have it:)

I'll keep this short for now but let's say you've been living in London for 6 years, got your UK Paspport but still thinking of SA all the time. Missing friends and family etc.

Would you count yourself lucky for having the opportunity to stay in a relative "safe" Britain or would you take your chances by moving back to SA knowing that if the ***** hit the fan you could always move back to the UK again?

I'd keep my ass in the UK. If you're hard up to move somewhere, try Australia. With your little red book the world is your oyster. If you're STILL wanting to move back here, be prepared to be ****ed royally and saying "thank you" as the jizz hits your face

What a load of s**t. As if we owe it to SA to stay here and fight the system when the majority of the country wants these idiots in charge.
It's what South Africans want so they can have it, I'll go have a better life elsewhere.

You can insult the ones leaving all you want, but the fact is they have a better life. I want to live in a first world country where I can enjoy life without worrying about crime and corruption.
I care about my own life more than I care about SA, I wont sacrifice my happiness to fight against the very thing most South Africans actually want.
