My 24mths on MTN has ended, I want to cancel my contract and move to Cellc.
I want to keep my number and I'm not sure what steps I have to take?
Do I have to setup a contract and port my number to Cellc before I end my contract with MTN?
or Can I first cancel my MTN contract, will I still have my number?

Thanks, really appreciate any help on this.
Went to a mtn store, but they were very unhelpful. Probably had the ****ty attitude cause I was leaving them...

Don't mention the word cancel to MTN.

Just tell them you want to migrate your number back to a prepaid.

When that is done go to a Cell C store. Tell them you want to port to them and they will do the rest.

Just a thought here.

Buy a prepaid Cell C SIM and make sure that you test the coverage for voice and data in the areas where you spend most time on your mobile devices.

You might find yourself venturing back to the big two after a few hours if your coverage is not similar or better.

I didn't realize coverage was an issue anymore. Doesn't Cellc use Vodacom in areas they don't have coverage?

Indeed but do you have adequate Vodacom coverage? ;) always good to test and costs almost nothing. And +1 for telling them to convert to pre-paid

Dont stress with CellC you'll be convered if not better than Vodascum - if not you can always roam on the vodascum network.

I had vodacom prepaid when they had that 20gb special and it worked great. But I'll get a Cellc sim today and just make sure. Thanks

Just migrate to prepaid , port your number to cellc and the apply for cell c contract using the same number. Easy as that.

I ported my number from MTN contract to Cell C.

Call MTN call centre and tell them to convert your number to prepaid. MTN will convert your number within 24hours or so.
You will lose all you unused airtime, although you can transfer this airtime to someone.

My contact ended, phoned and migrated to prepaid, bought SIM from pnp, followed directions to port (sms some number) and no issues. Very very happy so far. Have not bothered with upgrade to cellc contact yet.

I have almost R1k credit on my MTN voice contract - after 24 months. Can this be transfered to another MTN prepaid account?

Or do I loose the lot before porting to CellC?

You will lose your remaining balance when the contract is ended.

Did the very same thing last week when I got the iPhone 5.

Ported from an expired MTN contract to a Cell C contract. No prepaid conversion at all.

Cell C completed the port request form and submitted it to MTN. a Day later I was up and running, no problems.

Informed MTN afterwards of the port and that I want the contract to be cancelled on their side.
