So i received an email my service is cancelled from Afrihost, and Cool ideas have to take my line from Vumatel. I am also working from home and its not a relocation or new install, its only moving ISP's, so was just wondering what the process is and how long it takes to move ISP?

Do you have your application ref for me?

Hi, it is VC-1621-739829, but it is up and running now. Did however take 7 hours, but I have noted even after reset of ONT and router I have, the latency is 31 ms for local connections on Vumatel, that is high, did a few tests on wifi 5G and on LAN cable.

Yeah the provisioning process from Vumatel can take some time with the new system. Can you post the example of the latency for me?

Hi as attached direct connection from 1 Gbps LAN port with CAT6 directly to ONT and the ping is 13 ms so that is fine but my line speed should be 1000/100 so my uplink is fine but my downlink is nit even half the speedcoolideas1.jpg

Your harddrive is getting hammered. That is likely why. RAM getting filled up too quickly.

What @cavedog said, the PC is the bottleneck. Try run a trace route to 154.0.1.1?

It gives me **** load of no responses and 30 hops at 12830 ms and that is on a diffrent laptop. I have used a diffrent laptop where there is no resoirce issue and still same result basically. Not getting close to 400 mbps. My bro is a network engineer and he says fiber providers with their 500 to 1 connections and over selling their capasity is the culprit.

Well there's something else wrong then as there is unlikely any ICMP filtering, so something on your network is doing that.

Which router are you using? Let's start there :)

With all due respect contention typically isn't a factor these days, you can't even split Pon that far. Are you using Vumatel aerial or Trenched? IE PPP or DHCP?

I am using a Xiaomi Mi Dual Gigabit edition router but its been modified with OpenWrt software as I like linux interface. I am receiving a new router tomorrow from Cool ideas, no idea what router that will be. I am on Vuma Aerial, thats basically SADV bought over from Vumatel. The connection is PPPoE I received today from Cool ideas.

Please note the test done was directly to ONT, so skipped Router entirely, so could it be faulty OTN maybe? as this is a long standing issue I have had and Vuma NOC received hundreds of speed test from me in over 3 months and they could not resolve the problem, they just close my tickets and say tested fine, where there is an obvious issue.

If you are having ICMP dropped it's probably the PCs not the ONT. But it's something we would need to troubleshoot with, so maybe check which firewalls you have running on the PCs, and get a trace route working. From there we can see if there is anything obvious.
