I've currently got a 2mb uncapped bundle account with MWEB but I want to move over to Afrihost's 2mb uncapped bundle account.

Now I've found out that I first need to request a line migration from MWEB to Telkom. How long does this generally take?

Secondly it takes 30 days to cancel the account with MWEB. Would it be best for me to cancel the account at the end of the month or will it not make a difference? Reason I'm asking is because I don't want to sit in a situation where I'm having to pay MWEB, pay Telkom for line rental and then pay Afrihost as well or be in a situation where I don't have Internet access.

What have you guys found to be the best way of going about this?

Thanks

I want to cancel with Mweb as well. I'm on a 4Mbps Uncapped Premium aco**** and I'm scouting around for better/cheaper options.

I have the same questions, specifically the best time to cancel with Mweb in order to not pay 2 ISP's or be without an ISP for any period.

:D

Anyway, hope you guys have learned a lesson here. Never give your line to an ISP!

So you reckon when I move it to Telkom I should just keep it with them?

Main reason I got the bundled account in the first place was because I didn't want to have the hassle of dealing with Telkom when problems arose. How has your experience been in this regard?

So to keep line with Telkom it's R425pm for 4/10MB line
100GB capped package from Afrihost is R399

Total= R834

100GB capped bundle 4/10MB from Afrihost is R697

Total = 697 (save R137pm)

So why would I want to keep my line with Telkom? Except to cause myself more headache when problems occur.

I am transferring ISP's this month, line will be moved to telkom on 25th, still have connection.
Line will be taken over from telkom to new ISP on the 27th, still have connection.
30th old ISP with terminate, new ISP is already active, change username and password in router and tada.

Your line does not die for days on end when changing ownership of DSL line.

Luckily my line is with Telkom directly, but I still want to get rid of Mweb!

I think your change should be quite simple.

MWEB takes 30 days to do the cancellation so just find out from them when your last day will be and then you can organise with your new ISP to get you online by the following day.

I get that, what I'm worried about is just the timing of it all.

Firstly I don't know how long it takes for the migration from MWEB to Telkom. Then Afrihost has told me that it takes them 7-14 days to get the line from Telkom. And lastly, the MWEB cancellation takes 30 days.

So how did you get your timeline organised like that? If the line goes over to Telkom do they bill you pro rata while the line is with them or will you be paying for a full month?

Those are the exact headaches you avoid leaving your line with Telkom. It's just not worth it.

Let's hope you're lucky and they don't cancel your line while transferring it. It has happened before to quite a few people.

I keep my line with Telkom for less headaches.

Goodluck.

Hi There,
First get your line moved to Telkom. Once it is with them you can give the 30 day notice to MWEB.
Then Afrihost can pick up you as a client from the day that the MWEB contract finishes or even the day after.
After that you can decide if you want Afrihost to manage the Telkom line. If that is the case and I have done it(ignores expected comments) you are charge pro rata by Telkom and by Afrihost.

Regards

Tim

Sounds like you've already got some pretty good advice from the previous posters :)

Drop me a PM if you have more questions about moving to us :)

I was in the same boat. If u send cancellation today to MWEB they start counting the month from the 1st so last day of MWEB will be end of July. What I did was before I cancelled I called and told them to drop my 2mb uncapped account to the R29 1gb capped account for a month then cancelled it as well so my last month of MWEB I only paid R29 but used afrihost. Very happy so far
