moving out for the 1st time

Friend(lesbian) sharing with guy(homosexual) -> Still no happy ending. Even when they aren't bumping uglies.

Sounds like the start of a bad sitcom. :p

It definitely ends badly more often than not (even between good guy/guy or girl/girl friends), but I've found the worst is when two straight friends of the opposite sex try to share. It's as bad an idea as it sounds.

15 (std 8)
free outside room as accommodation but had to sort out my own food, toiletries, etc.
headmaster of school was aware of issues, so schooling was free to matric level.

Wow, life was tough in the days where everything was black and white.

Sounds like I have made a financially prudent decision to remain at home despite the parentals dropping obvious hints...

:p

Boarding School when I was 13....

Moved back in with my dad when I was 23, just after my mother passed on...... stayed to help him and my boets for a year, then I eloped with HO........

25 or 26...don't remember - couple months after I started my job.

Main issue till then was that the parent's place was too close to varsity to justify res. Plus had good parents. :)

Friend tried this.. Ends badly usually.

It depends. I've had multiple tenants over the years. I've had loads of issues sharing with friends, but the new guy in the other room not even a single issue simply because we didn't try to make friends. We're simply living together and that's the end of it.

The problem with sharing with friends is people get too relaxed and take liberties which they wouldn't take otherwise.

"Oh I'm sure they'll understand if I don't buy electricity this week. Let me have another vodka." That kind of thing.

Pay some rent.. Sneak the girls in and out before they wake up. Simple things.

Save all the spare cash you can manage in a account that is torturous to withdraw out of.

:D

Left home at 22, bought a house at 24, was house-poor until I was 26.

Unless you're Indian :)

Pretty much. You only move out when you get married in Indian families.

A friend of mine who's in her 30's still lives at home with mom and dad. Both her brothers who are older than her also live at home.

After varsity and wasting 2 yrs looking for jobs 27/8, 1 bed & bath granny flat, 2k when i was earning 8.5k

Then 3 yrs later i rebooted my life again, moved up to jhb.. 1 bed & bath flat, rent 5k, earning 11.5k (took a huge hit moving north but then work in cpt was non-existent)

What amazes me to this day is that I managed to rent the place without issues.. year and a bit later the % for a new place was a lot less but i found it interesting that the newer rental agreements specified that gross income needed to be 4-5x rental. With regards to buying.. well it depends on your investment strategy and being able to accurately predict things for a minimum of 3 yrs.. if you can't then you make bad buying decisions.

While I agree with the notion that rental/bond should not be more than 25% monthly nett (not gross, it skews badly), i do think sometimes u can manage the impossible.
