Hi,

Just a quick question to Afrihost and the rest of the forum, but am I suppose to be charged a fee to move my line over to Afrihost?

And if so, why was this never communicated to me when I did it?

EDIT: Just got off the phone with Afrihost and apparently there's no charge....Time to phone Telkom back and ask them WTF >.<

Hi,

When I moved my line to Afrihost, Telkom didn't charge me.

Been on the line to Telkom now for 20 minutes getting bounced between departments and now being told it's for a different reason to what the original person said.

The 1st agent I spoke to told me it was for the line trasnfer to Afrihost. This 3rd guy is now telling me it's because I upgraded the line speed (which I'm sure is free to do anyway) . So now they want to open a dispute. Sigh, maybe I just need to phone Afrihost and tell them to deal with this rubbish. Is that not 1 of the main reasons you transfer your line to them, so that they deal with Telkom on youe behalf?

There is no charge. There might be pro-rata issues for the first month on both sides. Just ride it out.

Heya

There definitely isn't any charge involved in moving a line over to us.
As long as you aren't in any contracts with Telkom just add the line on your end and we'll take care of the rest :)

Hi AG,

I'm not in any contracts with Telkom and my line was moved to Afrihost over a month ago.

I then upgraded to 20mbps (through Clientzone) during the middle of last month but now on my October bill I'm getting this additional charge for "General Adjustment" on my Telkom bill.

But maybe you can help me or perhaps if you can drop me a PM and we can try sort this out but just finished up my phone call with Telkom and they are saying the charge is because I moved from a "Home ADSL" to a "Wholesale ADSL" and so they charged me a once off fee of R387. Do you perhaps know what this is? Or why I was charged for it? and if Afrihost can help me?

Definitely shouldn't be the case. Any/ all billing on the ADSL line is done through us - so Telkom shouldn't be adding anything extra onto your bill, telephone calls barred :(

I've had this personally happen to me too, try and give the accounts/ billing department a shout at Telkom and explain the story. They should pass a credit under the account.
I'd love to pass the credits myself, but we can't touch a Telkom invoice I'm afraid.

I got the exact same charge, I moved from 10 meg to 20meg. I spoke to Telkom and laid a dispute and the reversed the 387.

Unfortunately I just got off the phone with the Telkom Accounts department and I tried to explain to them that any of my ADSL billing would go through Afrihost but he clearly didn't understand what I was talking about as he just kept repeating that the amount that shows there is all that his computer will tell him :(

So can Afrihost not handle this on my behalf or will I need to maybe speak to the Telkom rep here? I tried to get the agent to transfer me to his supervisor but he was very reluctant to do so :(

Thanks. The guy on the phone said he was typing on a dispute, which wasted like 20 minutes of my time in random silence...Whether he did it or not I have no idea :(

I'm also curious now as I was planning on moving back down to an uncapped 10meg package. If I do that, can I expect another "General Adjustment" fee next month >.<

Just by the way what vdsl modem are you using? I am using Zyxel from axxess and has not been great...

Using the Pace router from Telkom...Coming from my old Netgear, this thing is horrible and ugly >.< Struggled to find any VDSL modems from online stores at the time so caved and went to a Telkom store :/

I really wish I could reverse the charges or chat to Telkom about this on your behalf - but the account is under your name and they'll only deal with the account holder. We can only bill and control the ADSL portion of the line which Telkom bill us for - these types of disputes need to go via Telkom directly.

What number are you calling to query this? 10210 usually works. Just mention that you've moved your line to Afrihost (or a wholesale provider) and we're billing you for your ADSL line. It should appear on the Telkom invoice as WS or something along those lines.
Drop me a PM if you still aren't winning and we can throw around some ideas to have this sorted for you :)

Thanks. And Ya, am phoning 10210 but clearly I either suck at explaining the situation or I've just managed to speak to 3 people who actually have no idea what they're doing >.<

Any idea if this will happen again if I do end up moving my line back to 10mbps? As the capped option just doesn't seem to be enough for me but the Uncapped 20mbps option isn't quite in my price range.

I really can't be sure. I'm not 100% sure how/ why Telkom billed you in the first place for the upgrade :(

Guess I'll find out on my next bill >.< But I managed to get in contact with TelkomZA and he is going to try see what he can do. Hopefully he'll be able to figure something out.

Might also be helpful to send us a scan your Telkom bill so we can see what was billed, maybe it's not related or its for a different billing period (cos Telkom bills in arrears where we bill in advance)

Drop me a mail on [email protected] (along with your account number) ;)

they charged me a ridiculous amount: they not even scared of lawyers. damn helkom

Don't think I've got it yet, but I'll double check my mail and make 100% sure :(

Yeah speaking of, I've been double billed myself :(
R80 pro-rata at Afrihost for end of last month
Then billed by Telkom again for the current month, and of course by Afrihost for this month's bundle.
Will wait until the 24th when I get my Telkom bill to see if they reverse it (hopefully, because currently I'm something like R500 over )
