So we are moving to Cape Town from Joburg at the end of the year (I hate moving )

Whats the best way to get my crap down there?
I have sent off for quotes from removal companies, but some people I know just rented a container and shipped all their stuff down in a container. I cant seem to find any companies that offer this tho.
We are going to be renting in the Parklands/Tableview/Melkbos area to start. Opinions on these area's?

Damn I'm getting depressed just thinking about it.. ( the move, not being in Cape Town)

Can't you sell your crap cheap cheap and buy new when you get there?

I was thinking of that, but finances are going to be too tight. I think its going to be cheaper to move my stuff than to replace it.

You can buy your stuff over the months. I hate moving stuff around. You may find that you don't really need most of the stuff you currently have.

I did the move a year and a half ago... sell what you don't need. Really, take as little as possible. There are so many things we packed and then never unpacked. Get a good moving company, don't use Key Moves... they suck.

Tableview is great but some parts of Parklands are not nice at all. Check it out before you move in to little Nigeria.

Jeeeeeeeeezus!!!!!!!! Parklands? Like Parklands? Please don't. Blouberg, Melkbos or Northern Suburbs.

Some of thr contractors on Gumtree have been known to deliver removals successfully. You need to ask for contactable references if it is someone you have not heard of

Parklands is not bad. Parklands High School is well thought of and very well equipped

Parklands is a bit rough nowadays. Lots of drug-pushing nigerians. I don't walk around the streets alone there, and not at all after dark.

What's Tableview like. I'm in the southern suburbs but looking for a cheaper area to stay

I live in Table View. It's nice and central to everything I need, just kak windy in the summer months.

I live in this area:

OP, you can use this company. They're a VERY reputable company.
The container route is gonna cost you money as well, not just for the shipping but also to transport from shipping company warehouse to your home.
A long distance move like this costs thousands..end of story. If you're gonna do it, make sure you do it right first time.

Why you leaving the jozi crew :(

His car is not coming back.

Or did you get it?

/goes to read thread

EDIT: Thread be read!
Reason for moving = Cape Town farking rules! :D
Glad you got your own back madman88

We stay in Flamingo Vlei, walking distances to schools, close to transport and shops and on the Vlei, awesome for being close to nature, walking dogs etc. best of both worlds IMO. The houses are also established older houses so large and spacious compared to parklands homes that all look exactly the same and on top of each other. Good luck with move and you making the right choice :D
CT rocks.

I'll give them a call. I used to deal with them about 10 years ago, I thought they only transported mail :p

Dude, do you need to ask? :p Were keeping the business up here for now. We have a really good Manageress and I think she will do well.

Thanks :D I'm just glad that fikin bastard no longer has it.

Where are you going to work?

The business we are buying is in Tableview.

I love my Southern Burbs

I prefer my northen suburbs thank you :)

Durbanville is great. Streets are safe even 4am in the morning and the people are easy going, and not as "wannabe-posh" as some people in the Southern areas.
