Moving to Saudi Arabie

Hi,

I'm in negotiations for a move to Saudi Arabia.

The salary and the position are absolutely amazing and a no-brainer.

The country is much less of a no-brainer...

I'm going there in a few weeks for the last interview and will probably see by myself, but I was wondering if anybody has first hand experience?

Only what i have seen on TV and what i have heard from some other guys who worked there.

Money is great, but you not going to have much to do outside work - most guys are just stuck in the compound. Boredom will set in quite quickly. If thats okay for you, then you will be fine.

Have you ever been to any of the Middle eastern countries your listed - if yes - then i think you are all good to go. If not, any chance you can go for a quick trip before making you mind up?

I know someone that worked in Saudi, just moved back to SA. I wouldn't do it to my wife.... The money can be great, but there are some things that money can't buy.

I've been 4 times to Bahrain, twice to Lebanon and once to Doha, Abu Dhabi and Dubai. I don't like Dubai so much but Bahrain is deadly boring so for a short week-end, it's probably better.

Jordan and Oman are to visit (Dead Sea, landscapes in Oman...), Egypt for the beach and Lebanon I have many many friends there, I actually love Beirut.

I know nurse that did it, moved back in a year.

She had almost no rights etc.

They do pay big dollars for nurses.

It's definitely not a country I would have thought of but sometimes you have to compromise!

We actually had a long discussion about it, we agreed to find a massive compound so that she doesn't have to get out of it too often and can remain without a hijab.

Especially if you don’t have kids etc.

She works as a freelance online so can keep on working and maybe even find new clients there, so it will keep her busy.

No kids and it's not planned anytime soon.

The plan is like 3 years, we actually need to discuss a cap of savings at which we move back otherwise it's an open door for a fight.
