"Firefox can't connect to a site because the site contains old, unsecured version of SSL protocol" that's the error message i get when trying to connect to a university internal web link... What is the SSL protocol... I think Firefox 2.0 has lot of problems, personally i had had problems using it...

I think the older version of SSL is disabled by default. You can enable it by checking your Security tab in Preferences, IIRC.

Maybe I haven't been upgraded to Fx v2 for long enough, but I have been using it for several days now, and haven't picked up problems using it, perhaps if you could let us know [other than the older SSL setting issue] what problems you have been experiencing using Fx v2, we could comment and maybe even provide solutions...?

Under security (FF v2.0), nothing on SSL or IIRC, neither 'preferences' option.. Went to Advance tab> clicked encryption; The SSL 3.0 was ticked, unticked it but no change...

I've tried IE v7.0, gave a similar security error but IE gives you an option to bypass anyway.. How does one make sure his web site/pages have latest security features or what ever this SSL refers to?

You would have to contact whoever is responsible for that site and request that the web server software be updated for security reasons...

Fx v2 Advanced tab...
Fx v2 Security Warnings dialog box...

I've been using it since release and had no problems at all.

Okay! maybe i exaggerated:sick: ... But i once posted a thread complaining about a 'Page Not Found' which loads ONLY as part of the successfully loaded web page (mostly where flash frames are likely to appear: Adverts..etc). I think this started with Fv1.5.. But in general i'm happy with FF except this uncommon page/frame error..

Thanx

I have seen the light !

I had Firefox 1.0 installed yonks ago, but never really gave it a chance.

Today I downloaded and installed 2.0 and it does not look like I will go back to IE unless they come up with something really special.

Love the tabbed browser and it seems less resource hungry than IE.

Thus far it has opened up everything I wanted, but we will keep IE around for emergencies.

Ok, now you are ready to ditch Windoze and switch to Linux, aren't you? - yes is the only valid answer to that question :p :D.

LOL - IC ........ I am actually sitting with an Ubuntu CD in my hand ; Mr Shuttleworth was kind enough to send me a wad of CD's. (How did you know?)

I recon it will require a bit more thought than installing Firefox. I have to find replacements for all my favourite apps first.

I'm sure there is a list somewhere listing Linux equivalents of Windows apps.

sonxEr77, just after my previous post in this thread, I got that exact same problem with Fx2 in a site that was working perfectly a couple of hours ago, I don't know what caused it, was about to sound the alarm bells, but decided to clear the Cache in Fx2 and restart Fx2, which solved the problem for me...

Now that you mention it, there is this sticky thread, in this very forum:

[post=415994]Open Source Software: Reviews and Links...[/post]

Although there are similar threads burried in the Off Topic forum somewhere, and lots more info on the net :D.

Thanks will start collecting the bits I need ...... it might mean a mew lease of life for some old discarded machines. They are now starting to look like Firewalls and gateways as opposed to old junk that can't run XP or Vista.

As for FF, I am only having problems with one site, but this has been the case with IE as well. All day today I was trying to open http://www.cubit.co.za and reach here http://www.cubit.co.za/dealers/software/down.php , but no luck.
