I'm not sure if something like this was asked before.

My RunX doesn't play mp3. It is one of those old tech 6 cd changer - what ever you call it.
Is there a reliable mp3 player that I can plug in and play mp3? How much am I looking at?
I just don't trust these ones that you have to plug to that cigarette lighter thingy. I don't want to remove this factory fitted radio I have.

Get one with a USB input its the best thing ever!:)

O yea my 8 gb usb stick is full and i am sick of the music already :p, just to much work to put another 7-8gb playlist together :p

Was thinking of getting a 32gb usb stick for all my music :p

Does your radio not have auxillery for something like an ipod?

Yep loads of music, easy to edit, easy to just add that one new song that you like.
Also theres no skipping of tracks when driving over humps, no CD storage, it perfect!:)

Why not? I used them lighter modulator things for ages, works great.

However if you do have a player with a AUX then you're sorted i guess, just get the right cable.

Anyhow, the good part about the FM modulators [cigarette jobbies] is that you effectively only need a FM radio in your car, don't need CD/Tape etc.

How much? where did you buy it? What brand? Life span?

i have one of those. Will set you back about R150. But the Quality can be crap sometimes. Especially when driving for a long distance, where you meet up with different frequencies... you have t change the frequency that you are using...

Hmm got one for like R100-R200, they're like everywhere these days. Even Game have them. But here's a link at Take2 if you want to see what we're talking about :

You get quite few variations, there's a few that even comes with built in memory and/or SD card slots , so instead of having to carry around your actualy MP3 player, you just load the songs onto a SD-card and slot it into the modulator itself.

Mine is actually some no-name cheap one, and i've had it for like 2-3 years now.

Yes there a few quirks , i've found that if there's an actual radio station on the frequency you're using for the MP3 player it can result in bad quality and ghost sounds. Fortunately all of these modulators come out with a range of selectable frequencies, you just pick one that works. I've not really had quality issues per-se, alot of it is more related to my MP3 player's quality itself than the modulator.

i meant sound quality. It's analog and not digital... hence my comment about the sound being ***

Be carefull when changing your deck (if you thinking about doing that)...It may affect your warranty...my gf polo 2007 model..we wanted to change the deck (also to get one with a usb slot :) ) but VW told us not too... it would make the warranty void...which is such ***! anyway the standard deck is fine and it does play mp3's ...just would be better to have one with a usb slot ...
