Mp3 USB power cable smoking hot!

The English HO plugged her mp3 player into one of the USB ports on one of our home PC's , next moment the usb cable starts to melt and emit smoke in the process...

What on earth cause this?

I have a spare cable from another mp3 player, but am weary to plug it in....

Anyone else experienced such a calamity?

It's not uncommon... those cables get twisted and bent and all it takes is for the insulation to crack and the wires to touch...

Plugged the device into another usb using a more upmarket cable, nae bother, charging like a whore down long street on a payday night!

My S6 cable does that when I charge it.

You will burn your face off if you touch the phone whilst it changes
