Anybody know of a good mp4 player for an android device. Don't care if I need to pay for it as I've tried a lot of players on the market and you always need to choose sw encoding when playing the file.

I'm not that familiar with Android devices, but don't they have the equivalent of an iPod built in, which would obviously play .mp4's.
See if it has a TV Shows/Movies/Video's section in the "iPod" app

MX Player - and its free :)

On-screen touch controls, slide thumb on right half of screen for volume, left half for brightness, horizontal for seeking, etc etc. all round awesome.

Have you tried MX Player? I haven't tried using mp4s with it, but it's played every other format I've tried. Plus it has a nice interface, and dual-core support. The only thing I don't like about it is that the ad-free version is quite expensive.

I thought most androids play MP4 by default?

Samsung seems to have this built in, you can also try mobo player, it will request the necessary codec.

Bought MX player as I hate ad's on apps. Found the settings and it works like a charm.
