MPAA Caught Uploading Fake Torrents

If the torrents are fake though and don't actually contain the copyrighted material how can they accuse you of a copyright violation?

They can accuse you of anything - proving it is another matter all together. They work on the idea that most people will just pay up because the last thing they want to do is end up inside a court room and start losing.

As was the case when they sent papers to someone in the US who later turned out to be a 83 year old granny, and really did not sit on the net all day downloading mp3s

and that folks is why torrents suck.

A few years ago I worked at a consulting firm in the states. They were asked to come up with a strategy to combat at that time music piracy on Kazaa. The solution the firm proposed was to flood kazaa with fake files which they did. It seems they are trying the same approach with torrents..

Sadly for them, torrents don't follow the same rules. IE if someone finds a torrent that is bogus they are not going to continue to seed it now are they? **** off MPAA.
