"The MPAA and other anti-piracy watchdogs have been caught trapping people into downloading fake torrents, so they can collect IP addresses, and send copyright infringement letters to ISPs. The battle between P2P networks and copyright holders seems to be a never ending battle. It will be interesting to see how much the anti-piracy groups practices change once they begin begin selling movies and TV shows legally on bittorrent.com."

Assuming its as clear cut as the quote says - then, america being the place that it is - MPAA need to be sued.

Interesting....
Always advisable to download after reading all the comments and warnings. Not all torrents offer such a facility though ...

If the torrents are fake though and don't actually contain the copyrighted material how can they accuse you of a copyright violation?

Almost the same as sneaking into a building, and stealing some evidence... any court will throw it out...

These guys will try anything... they sure must be desperate... :D :D

There was a sim thing with mp3's a while back - there is one way to get away from it, do away with money... Not that will happen any time soon, or anytime at

What you mean do away with money? Money just represents commodities, would you rather go back to bartering? :D

As I understood it they allow the people to dowload 90% and then it stops. I suppose 90% of a movie is also illegal.

Did you not see the Star Trek next gen film, were they go back in time to fight the Boring Borg

I could understand it in that case, but the article said sometimes the whole movie's just a black screen.

And with the high cost of comms here, wouldn't it be nice is you could sue for all the time they cost you, like all the hours wasted on the net while someone had a look see what was on your computer

A bit off the court stuff, remembered a few years ago Linkin Park faked their new cd's songs with old ones. So after the download (kazaa) it would be their own songs, only their old album not the new one. :D

I had this this idea that someone could print up dvd's of whatever was the latest fab movie - on printable DVDs and get ppl to sell them on street corners... Like Harry Potter 5, Rocky 6.... that sort of thing, covers and all made up in Nero

Only thing is, there is nothing on the DVD....

What are the ppl that buy it going to do?

"intention" = 3/4's of the law

Also this is targeting/threatening the isp's (to shut down torrents generally.)

"entrapment" = 100% of american law

(they lie though lying is 100% illegal in a court of law.)

Never understood it myself.

(how one lie is any different to another)

(bit like a drug bust, then celebrate by going and getting drunk)

sickos

A few years ago I worked at a consulting firm in the states. They were asked to come up with a strategy to combat at that time music piracy on Kazaa. The solution the firm proposed was to flood kazaa with fake files which they did. It seems they are trying the same approach with torrents..
