Exciting discoveries!! I was struggling with my Vodacom slow data connections and poor voice calls at our farm, but I found these guys that sell signal boosters and the moment I installed one, my problems vanished. Most of the times, signal is available outside, but poor inside the house. I just needed such a solution..

Not meaning to be ignorant or worse... but who did you find to help you with boosting the signal on your farm?

Regardless, welcome to MyBroadband :)

Thank you Humble Scot.

I feel at home!

I was assisted by a company called amplify south Africa. You can check their website www.amplifysouthafrica.co.za. There are a range of businesses that offer the same product with them though.

Thanks

You could be right. Something like this would need to be "compliant" / "regulated" with / by Icasa?

found this on the Poynting website here

Unfortunately it is illegal for anyone but the Cellular Network Providers to transmit on the cellular frequencies; or that radiate the signal. MTN and Vodacom have a license with ICASA to transmit on the frequency range. That is exactly what these ‘extenders’ do. Therefore to buy these systems over the internet (from other countries) and installing it here in South Africa (by you) is illegal. The problems with these repeaters are that they are expensive and, if they are not installed properly, they will influence the network negatively. If MTN, Vodacom, Cell C or ICASA ‘find’ these repeaters they will remove it and you might be liaible for a fine.

If you very lucky (and a good customer of the network) complaining to your service provider could result in a a booster being supplied. In my case Telkom installed both a network booster and external antenna free of charge at my house. Unfortunately this does not seem to improve other networks - but makes a big difference to the Telkom network.
