just a quick note to let you know about my experiences with mrbleeps proxy and socks server.

all i can say is that i finally max out my line at 52kb/s for my p2p downloads again. this only happened at the very beginning of adsl.

secondly, gaming is heaven! lower latency!!!

i donated, so i got a faster connection it seems. but i think the free server is down or something. will find out.

I agree, MrBeeps service has turbo charged my ADSL line. My donation to the project (and server) has been worth every cent and would encourage any adsl user who wants faster downloads or a better MMO gaming experience to give it a try.

i can only presume that gaming is better/lower latency is because the traffic gets higher priority to get out of SA because its on unshaped ports?

Can I ask why he calls it donating .... is it purely for tax purposes (non-profit, etc) or is there another reason ?

In that same way I could ask my boss to donate money to me every month and also not pay tax :)

He's running an essentially free service for us at his expense...so he's asking for donations to make the financial burdon a little lighter on his pocket.

Mike - Sorry if this sounds ignorant - but could you give us a run down of how this works? Is it international servers which we proxy to?

I assume it is not a solution that allows you to D/L internationaly after your cap is finished - but simply allows you to actually get your full speed when downloading P2P?

This seems like a worthwhile project. Depending on info forthcomming I will likely give it a go next month as Telkom's shaping is really having terrible effects on Many things

Hey Byrd,

You are 100% correct. Unfortunately it does not help with your cap, but certainly helps with shaped lines!!

Alongside our members, we are currently working on some great initiatives that will revolutionize ADSL in South Africa. We are looking at programs that send all international traffic through our server, thus avoiding shaping all together.

We are moving away from being JUST a proxy/socks provider, but adding that extra value to what you deserve.

Have a great day,
MrBEEP

Has anyone tried VOIP (specifically Skype) using this unshaped proxy? I have I lot of issues with skypeing overseas, and will try antthing to improve this - apart from buying a second unshaped account.

I tried the proxy with skype when it was still free, but didn't notice any difference. If this does not improve Skype voice quality (breakups, lags), why will a unshaped account from an ISP (eg Axxess)?

because thats a true unshapped acc, and u could b!tch at telkom if u didnt see diffrences
