Hi,

I have the weirdest problem at my office,
We had one of the PC's crash, old machine, so it was taken away for an upgrade
once it was taken away, office, and more specifically word and excel kept closing.
it is office 2000, as soon as you click on a font, it closes, some of the files just open and close.
the files are on the local machine and not from the pc that was taken away
no idea what this could be.
it tried the repair and fix, didn't sort it out

please somebody help.
 
Hi Simon ;)

Which operating system are you running, you have to be sure. If it's Windows XP you could always do a system restore to a previous date.

The cause could be a virus, incompatible software, or just office deciding to take a bow.

Try to remember when it worked fine, like last week and I'll try to guide you how to do a system restore ;)
 
Easiest would be to reformat the machine and reinstall everything. Should be quick and easy with a basic win+office setup.

You can also check the font folder to make sure that it does not act like a normal folder. It should show the Font name and file name in the "detailed" view. If its lost its magic you can use Tweak UI to repair it. Its extremely rare but it can break.

I don't see how a system restore which takes 15 minutes is hard? Formatting is not easy, especially if you don't have the knowledge.

thanks for the reply's

system restore was one of the first things i did.
system restore was not able to be completed.
i can re-install but as a last resort.
hope it doesn't come to that.

What error message was shown when System Restore wasn't able to be completed? Might give us a hint...
