I have recently joined a project introducing a client's employees to Office365 and the Apps they will be using. One being PowerBI.

Now I have developed Dashboards in Excel, and I train a Dashboard creation course. But playing with PowerBI, I am totally blown away. Dashboards have never been easier!

Yes you still need to know a lot about data structure and integrity - but wow. The tools just make it so easy. I have only spent a few hours on the program - but it is easier than pivot tables.

If I was you - I would definitely give it a try. Just remember the spreadsheet you import or link should be formatted as a table. But it will tell you that.

Can you link it to an MS Access table?

Currently only Excel, CSV and existing PowerBI Desktops.

But you can export from Access to Excel - so you can still use it.

You could also convert your Access to a SQL backend

SharePoint Foundation is free but only to 2013. Don't think there is a 2016 that is free. They want people to sue Azure.
SSMS (SQL Server Management Studio is the latest version and works with 2013)

Yes - Microsoft is pushing it as their cloud service for all sorts of things

Yeah Power BI is filling a good niche. They’re responsible for the recent major drop in Tableau licensing costs IMO.

Drop in price is always a good thing for us consumers. Apart from making the product more affordable - it forces the company to look at things they can add to their program which will help increase demand and selling price. New features FTW
