[MS Windows] Huawei E220 USB HSDPA modem: software installation & other issues

Perhaps download and install the full VMC 9.4 from the vodacom site.

I thought about suggesting this, but then it would be pointless. VMC 9.4 would install, but the PC still wont keep the Modem connected, so VMC 9.4 wont pick up a device.

Its worth a try though.

Perhaps another format, then installing the modem installing anything else?

Also try using the USB Cable with the extra "Assistant Power" point.

Well my thinking was that if it was some strange driver issue VMC 9.4 would at least install all the required drivers and you might get lucky. Worth a shot IMO. That being said, it does sound more like a hardware/usb driver issue in which case no amount of Huawei drivers is going to help you till you fix that.
 
thanks guys, will try 9.4.

I've tried the double usb cable thing-no joy. I also wasn't installing anything else, and in fact I haven't installed anything other than AVG! Which you can't switch off, it seems, but i did restrict it and tried again-also no luck.
