MSANS

My pawprint is on a NDA. :o

Sorry, dont want to irritate you with questions, but maybe you could let me know an eta?

Rondebosch, Cape Town. 021 685****

Have been rying to find an answer on the internet since I first heard about this project!

How far away from an MSAN can one live to get service from it?

I am trying to determine if the new MSAN in Uitzicht will be reachable from my road.

does they have any plan for Rustenburg (014 538 #### telkom said that exchange is congested and is only support 4Meg. exchange is serving both residential and industrial. so this is understandable is congested......
dont know when will the do anything about that :(

Doubt it. None scheduled for PMB... yet!

Was told the same about our exchange upgrading to Adsl 2+ enabled and it did get enabled

The big box is newish don't remember seeing it before and I go to work every week using that street, they had small grey cabinet before it came and lots of Telkom vans always around.

Good job on the info guys, big thanks from me :). We need to organise this info for users to access, you guys think this thread or a google doc is better?

Can someone post some pics of the MSANs? There was a few in the news article, but they arent very clear in determining if what I'm seeing is actually a MSAN. The one down the road from me is a Green box (old exchange), and a big white box about 3-4 times the size right next to it. Hoping its the new MSAN :)

The green box isn't an exchange, it's either a DSLAM or a mini-DSLAM. An exchange is a massive, multi-story building (depending on how.

However, the bigger white box 3-4x in size with a blue foundation, 3 doors and (normally) a little power DB box next to it is a MSAN :)

After I got upgraded my line stats are as follows:

down up
Rate (Kbps): 10015 1023
SNR Margin (0.1 dB): 111 108
Attenuation (0.1 dB): 80 33
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 20872 1151

noticed the SNR (noise) and line attenuation rates are quite different, what does it mean??

SNR= The higher the better

Attenuation=Lower the better

Because u were upgraded to 10mb it lowers your SNR, as for the line attenuation u have been connected to a closer fibre cabinet

Anybody have an idea when Brackenfell (021 982 xxxx) will get an MSAN?

I got a new DSL line activated on 14 July and my modem only syncs for 2-3 hours per day. Attenuation of 48-50db and noise margin between 6 and 10db... logged two faults already and seriously considering bribing a technician to come help me the next time I spot a Telkom van :/

I really wish they would upgrade the mini-DSLAM our complex is connected to support 10Mb in La Lucia. 031-562-xxxx
The technician just laughed when I asked him about the 20/40Mb upgrade and said I will never see 10Mb since we're connecting to this remote exchange :(
