MTN’s SMS competition under fire

We have to live with caps, should they. I propose we force government to impose a cap on Cell and Tel companies as to the maximum they are allowed to charge a single client in a single month. We are all aware of "break-even" and "saturation points" and "tolerance levels" ... well I've hit mine on the latter.
 
It sounds like it was hacked not rigged. Rigged would mean it was done in collusion with MTN the company and not individuals who work at MTN.

BTW I still think MTN are a bunch of frigging scammers for running a "competition" whose winning criteria how many sms's you can send.
 
it was all a money making excerise to begin with! MTN doesn't value customers and has been on a downhill slide since last year already ! the results of the probe will probably clear mtn ! corruption is everywere !
 
MTN dont mind the rankings being available. If i can see i need to "spend only R30,000" to win the car, then i spend that. Meanwhile some other guy sees he needs to then spend R30,005 to beat me. I then spend R30,010 because whats R10 more when i have already spent R30,000.
And so, the two (or more) guys try to outbid each other, all the while MTN make more money.

It wouldnt surprise me if MTN "leaked" the URL.
 
Anybody who spends even 0.01c to enter any of these büll**** SMS competitions deserves to be scammed.

I remember when sending an SMS was free. Oh yes, FREE because we paid a monthly subscription that was about ten times the price of our Telkom bill...
 
When were SMS's free in this country? I've had a cellphone since 1996, and don't remember free SMS's

What to do people think when they enter a "competion" like this? It's like throwing R7.5 away. All these "competions" (e-tv/mtn/vodacom/cellc) etc are rigged IMHO. Yea.. I'm going to PAY someone to scam me!

And who really thinks companies like MTN etc CARE about their clients? F0ck man, it's all about the money. They sell your number to tele sales etc. Cmon' how come I get so many phone calls on my cell and they know EXACLTY who I am.

If you enter these "competions", you deserve what you get.
 
Well I have to say that not all SMS compos are scams or fake. My wife sent 1 sms on the Mnet Cruise with the stars and we won it.

But then again that was something sponsored by mnet, not a cell company.

R7.50 per sms, is a raffle/lottery, no matter how much they spin this skill-based card.

Hmm - anyone want to confirm cellphone SMS's being free? I can't recall this.

I know about the websites that were available.
 
Even if there was this 'url' you could cheat with... one wonders how messed up you have to be to spend R50k to get the chance of winning a car... surely you are not the only one who knows this 'inside information'...
If you are that wealthy, then just buy the car... if not then you need your head read.

If you can see that you're winning, then I say go for it.
 
Oh whatever, more "hearsay" rubbish from a Journalist just wanting a scoop for the next sensationalist article.
Pretty much stopped reading the article the moment I saw the "The Star"
These allegations may or may not be true, but its just the way the press goes about its activities that gets my goat.
When will these journalists get some integrity.

How many other people had this 'knowledge'... what was the criteria for winning?
No doubt if it was true, someone at MTN set up the site for his / her mates since they couldn't enter... at least that's the logical explanation...

I think the how has been made quite obvious?

If only a hand full of people know - your chances are pretty good. How they found out is irrelevant, it is an MTN competition, and they need to accept responsibility for any leaks of information.
