Even Telkom’s CEO, Papi Molotsane, jumped in recently saying Vodacom was the first to launch with MTN following.

As Papi said it, we know for sure:

papi said that for one reason. If vodacom makes a killing of profit, telkom takes half that killing.
Hes looking after telkom's investments...
I donno y the article stated "even" papi......., when its pretty obvious y!!

I am tempted to state that MTN was indeed the first SP to launch 3G Evolved, however, as the Cara Christian stated it clearly "Whats the use of introducing something if you do not have the capacity to fully deliver it"? E.G. MTN does not have enough base stations to support the roll out of 3G and 3G Evolved - Period!!

Comparing the 3G coverage of MTN with VODACOM, you will see that MTN is way behind VODACOM eventhough MTN claims they are first with HSDPA. Now MTN announces they will be applying for a 3G licence in Nigeria. Maybe its time to migrate back to VODACOM.
