MTN reports huge profits

MTN has released its annual results and reported a 42.8% increase in profit across the group from R17 billion in 2021 to R24.3 billion in 2022.

In South Africa, revenue increased 3.9% from R48.7 billion to R50.6 billion, with service revenue increasing 3.6% from R39.4 billion to R40.8 billion.

Unreal really .. now the government get a 28% slice of that, to fatten the minister of communication and the new minister of electricity's bonus ... what they don't realise, is that that they could've made another 300 million in tax revenue, if MTN didn't need to spend it on loadshedding ... If the ANC took a minute to realise they would make more, if they grew the economy, we might have inadvertently employed the best government for the job, imagine how motivated they would be to grow the economy, if they realised they could steal more money if the economy was bigger and everyone was wealthier ...

2022 was the worst loadshedding year ever. When loadshedding happens WiFI drops and people go onto cellular.

Loadshedding makes you dial more often because of dropped calls. On data there is significant retransmits which are all billed.

MTN is making a killing for loadshedding.

What I meant is that consumers and companies are in contract, the full effect will only come to fruition in the next 2-3 years, it takes a while for the negative impact to be realised.

But I agree, Telco's are fairly resilient by virtue of the service they offer, not all businesses can ride it out like this
