Hi there, can anyone tell me, if there's a way I can find out if I have 3g coverage on my specific location, other than the coverage map? According to the coverage map, here in my location is a small "patch" where there is coverage, can mtn trace my number, to the specific spot, and tell me if I have coverage. Vodacom tells me I'll have coverage end of next year, pathetic service. Thanks:confused:

MTN (and the others) use special software loaded on a laptop to test actual signal strength (in dB) in-situ for 2G/3G in an area. The thus need to come out and map the signal in your area for you to be sure. You have to contact MTN's coverage department. MTN DD can supply their contact details.

Thanks Trafeye, but I asked someone with a 3g mtn phone to check if he has signal, but I'm not one of the lycky ones yet.

That is not necessarily a conclusive test. Most 3G phones switch back and forth between 3G and GSM. You should really test with a device that is only locked onto 3G. Datacards yes, or some Nokias like a 6630/80 with netmonitor loaded to lock the phone to 3G only.

Do you guys know of any software that you can load on a laptop to check 3G coverage through the data card? Maybe something similar to what MTN uses.

Regards,

JJF.

Street level coverage map not working?

Hi, btw it seems that the street level coverage map is not working

http://196.11.240.53/facts/documents/Coverage/CoverageWebMain.html

I am moving to the Sunnyridge, Germiston vicinity this weekend, and will be testing a borrowed vodacom 3g/hspda data card for conenctivity and speeds. However, I also want to assess the MTN connectivity in my area.

Dear MTNDD, I assume then that as a non-MTN subscriber I can use the contact details you provided to help me in assessing the potential connectivity at my location?

with thanks
have a nice day!

Good day,

Well as long as you have a MTN coverage related query then yes you can, I've escalated this to support staff in terms of the website being down and they'll advise ASAP

coverage map working again

hi, thanks, it seems to be working fine now.

it also seems from the map that I might be at the edge of being either a orange EDGE or a blue HSPDA user. Sigh...what to do... well, btw for anyone in this Sunnyridge area, you can pm me, where I am testing my current test card I get 1400 kbps+ downloads (but it's not MTN....yet).

anyone else in this area? Sunnyridge, Germiston....

regards
