MTN 3G useless

Has anyone noticed recently (last month) around Johannesburg that MTN's 3G even with full signal gets no throughput? If I am trying to use maps sometimes I have to wait a minute for search results to come up even

Yes I have noticed this too. But I've noticed it for a lot longer than the last month.
I first noticed it last year while I was still on telkom mobile and when I roamed on MTN.
Since moving to MTN, when I'm on LTE then everything is perfect. As soon as my iPhone says 3G then I don't even bother trying to use data.
As Ockie suggested, I also think it's the spectrum issue.

I was actually thinking about posting here and asking if it was only me but now it seems like my suspicions have been confirmed

I understand why you say this because the residents have fought against towers being placed.
But my MTN data usage is mostly outside of Lonehill and when my iphone says 3G I don't even bother trying to access the internet.
 
That's an odd one:confused:

Could you provide via PM some examples of areas where this happens along with your contact details? I'd be interested to check this out for myself...
