Hi

I get the full 5 bars signal at home
but when i look at the statistics panel from my modem my download speed seems to be capped at 5 kb/s?
and once in a blue moon it will spike up to over 100 for a second and then goes back to 5 kb

this also seems to be a problem only in this area
and has only been a problem for the last 3 weeks or so, previously
it was working fine.
when i take my modem (Huwei E220) and my laptop to work in Sandton it works fine

any help or advice is appreciated
D

I'm having a similar problem in the Raslouw/Monavoni area, right next to Eldoraigne.

Speeds were good but have been poor in the last month or so.

I`m having similar problems in Valhalla next to Eldoraigne...I went to MTN Centurion customer care and were told to phone the IT dept ! Download speed dropped from average of 650 kb to 85kb but spiked upload speed to about 1.2 Mb/s.

Same problem with me.Used to PM a Guy from MTN but i'm getting no reply's.
My signal strength is over 90%,full bars and still getting speeds at 40-100kbps download>my upload ranges over 200kbps.
This is a serious problem.I load a youtube 30min video in 2 hours,it's pathetic.

Any idea who we can escalate to guys?

Since posting here my speed has dropped to 50-120kbps and constant drops from H+>3g>E and even G sometimes.

YouTube is unusable, can't update apps, browsing is painfully slow...

There must be a problem surely?

Hi guys

Its not like im ignoring you or anything- ive just got my own queue im swamped with, full of queries that are exactly the same as the problems you now face. I used to log on 4-5 times a day, now given my new job responsibilities im lucky if i log on 4-5 times a month...
Problem ive picked up is transmission- not enough E1 links to accomodate the new influx of users. Transmission department are working hard to have the new links installed, but these links are done through Telkom and have a fairly lengthy timeframe. In cases like this MTN is investing more into self provisioning (ie supplying MTN tx links) and ive seen some parts of Sunninghill and fourways benefitting greatly from it.
This whole situation is quite a "180" from the queries of old- used to be that your signal wasnt strong enough- now lo and behold its throughput.
Im going to have a word with our bosses to check if there isnt a way that i can take details from here, determine serving cells and see what can be done with regards to prioritizing Tx additions based thereupon.

Thanks ! Much app. At times it`s so slow I can`t even do Internet Banking ..... :-( Really hope they can fix it soon.

Thanks Voldemort you the only person at MTN i see so far doing anything. When i write a complaint they send me a message that is the same they sent for everyone.
Hopefully the thing you guys are doing will get this super low connection fixed.
It would be nice if MTN can send me updates to my email that will notify me whats happening and set a date when it will be hopefully fixed.
Don't care about spam so long as i get an email.Hate it when i'm in the dark about something i pay.

OK so in the interim I have got a reference from from coverage & Hellopeter, still waiting for someone to contact me though.

Since i logged the call, the speeds have mostly still been around 100kbps but sometimes go up to 4Mbps, something is definitely going on.

Speeds are now great! I thought id give it a few weeks before updating just incase it goes crazy again.

Been getting rock solid 3-5Mbps speeds in the last month.

Not so thrilled that MTN were not honest and given me a reason after all the calls and complaints.
