This is pathetic. People wonder why BlackBerry uptake is so large? Uncapped data (even though it might not be truly uncapped, but still - most people probably never get to 1GB anyway).

Puch messaging and vendor based data plans are for the weak. Real phones do everything with normal internet and will check email just like a computer does.

You'd be better off paying a little more and getting the 8520 which is a higher spec phone (except for memory) and unlimited data.

BIS "Unlimited Data" comes in at less than 500MB, I reckon. Do you know how much browsing that is using Opera Mini on a normal smartphone?
a decent 3G bundle (150-1300MB) should be enough for anyones on phone browsing.

I've used well over 2Gb in a month and never reached a cap (but you need a 3G Blackberry to take advantage).

Sorry to dredge up this old post but its better to ask a question here than start a new thread.
I started using Nokia Messaging (Beta trial) last year on my 5800 and it has worked like a charm for me. (Gmail acc, and despite what people say about imap-idle my emails arrive in real-time! (okay maybe a 1sec delay)).
I've read that in some parts of the world the beta testers have received mail stating that the trial will end in September and from this press release I believe it's already over (the trial) in SA. It still works for me though and I did (a few times) upgrade my software/firmware on the phone. No complaints though, maybe its just free here. Using MTN (Anytime 100). So what gives? Of course it does take some airtime for data but all included (voice, sms, data) I never go over my R100 allocation despite enthusiastic use! Okay I must admit I do have wi-fi at home so maybe that mitigates the airtime issue.
It really is an incredible service I believe and wouldn't mind paying even R50 a month for it if they eventually start charging. What do you guys reckon?
