Ok...so I have ventured into many a MTNsp store this morning and Im more confused than ever.
Initially I was told that you can decide to "activate" a Topup function on your anytime contract at no additional cost whatsoever. Now this morning I went to open a new contract on an Anytime 100 contract(nokia 5800) and was told that the Topup cannot be activated on the contract. Then I took out the booklet which states
Enjoy the best of both worlds: the convenience of contract and the control of PayAsYouGo: TopUp. This option is available on any of the MTN AnyTime and MTN Off Peak contract packages and is ideal for those who want stricter control over their monthly cellphone expenditure. There is a limit on your cellphone bill linked to your inclusive SMS messages and inclusive Airtime Value. Once your inclusive airtime and SMS messages have been used up, all you have to do is top up with PayAsYouGo airtime and continue using your cellphone as normal.

and showed it to the in-store manager. Then I was told that you could add the topup function but there would now be a >R1000 pay in on the phone...?

Now is this correct..? I am still paying the R149 a month for the phone and all that I want is that after the R100 is used up and im "blocked" that I have the option of topping up.(easy way to control my spending) Now must I pay a R1000 more just for this option? Does it honestly make any sense?

Can the MTN reps PLEASE comment whether this is indeed correct or what the hell is going on.

Thanks

I was told the same thing at Customer Service Center in Northgate.
There is a pay in on THIS phone, some others as well.

The AnyTime 100 @ R159/month gives us R100 in-bundle worth of calls.
If we go over R100 we get billed at out-bundle rates.

We can get the TopUp-limit on it, but we have to pay in (when taking this phone).

:(

ah well seems i am just gonna get the contract for the phone and make sure that i don't go over R100 which should be easy for me...

that doesn't make sense... it says then that you get R100 airtime.

You do get R100 airtime after which they charge additional rates. You could place a limit on the anytime contract so you do not go over the R100 but they say there is no guarantee on this as callers apparently frequently go over their limits as the system doesn't work properly:rolleyes:

but out of the R100 comes your GPRS and sms's and so on??

you are correct, everything comes out of the R100, a topup option is more expensive. Sansung M620 on anytime 100 is R49 and on Topup 100 is R75 per month (not 100% sure of the prices off hand).

And that is fine...as long as there is no additional associated R1000+ pay in. LOL:)

The "TOP UP" option on all Anytime packages only applies you take a basic phone or if the phone is on special. By instituting an old billing system they are trying to recoup the loss in revenue in compensation for the phone.

E.g. I'm also on Anytime 200 but when I deplete my R200 I can still make calls and get billed later though at a cheaper per second rate (i think). I would have loved the classic Anytime Top Up package but the E71 had a pay-in which I was not willing to pay. So, I'm stuck in this package for yet another 24 months.
