Can anyone at MTN clarify there billing cycle rationale?
Just looking at my last statements it is kinda difficult to judge when not to go over your limit:
26109 to 25.10
26.10 to 26.11
27.11 to 25.12
26.12 to 26.01
27.01 to ??

Mine is supposed to run from the 14th of one month to the 13th of the next month, but I haven't really been checking if it is exactly on those days.

Strange that your December one ended on the 25th considering it was a holiday:confused:. I would think that the dates are normally adjusted to bypass Sundays and public holidays.

I'm trying to keep a tab on my limit and by logging into mtn active you can see your update PSD calls and even the amount of data left without the PSD calls reflecting it.
However, at end of month this becomes suitable vague as oppose to rest of month with more accurate update after each session.

Even at REAL TIME download speeds of 7.2 Mbps, the back-end systems can't keep up (even at rate of 1 session/per day). Wish I could blame Telkom/Eskom/Apartheid (pick one) for this :p

Yea, you make it sound like it's a bonus ;) . Sad part is the site is horrible if you want keep tabs on ESPECIALLY your data usage, you have to literally have to dig real deep in there to see a very vague and unclear line showing your data usage.

To top it off, then it's outdated too. Terrible.

The billing cycle is just a mess if you ask me. I figured it out fortunately, but is as confusing as hell as there's two cycles [which never overlaps] you need to keep track of.

1. The cycle you are physically getting billed [money is paid/ debited etc etc]
2. The cycle when your account is "renewed" , i.e. when your free minutes , data bundles etc are updated . This is the invoice cycle which means they also add "money you need to pay" onto your account. [THIS is usually 13th-13th , 26th-26th]

If you don't map the two cycles close together , so that you PAY very close after the INVOICE , you get suspended because of 2 months of outstanding money accumulating on your account.

The stupid part is MTN does not provide assistance with this and leave it up to us to figure it out and get a surprise suspension....even then MTN does not assist you, you have to phone the whole planet to get this very -should-be-obvious-to-mtn- event sorted out .

I wanted to lower my credit limit to prevent overspending on my databundle [yes they don't warn you if you go out of bundle on contract] , but now i'm stuck with this exact catch 22 billing cycle of theirs. I am basically forced to allow for 2 months of credit on my credit limit, otherwise i'm suspended every month when the invoice hits . This defeats the whole purpose of preventing overspending because it means i can still overspend in a single month by 2 months worth of a credit....

Like I said, fortunately I'll never be in charge of MTN plans, cause I'll upset the whole revenue stream, but at least they will have the happiest customers in the world. Give them what they want/need as oppose to give them what MTN want/need.
It is also called reversed customer service (the BEE version of capitalism).
