MTN Black Friday Discussions

Thats how they get you; take away your money little by little.... Without your consent...

You really really really need to read the T and C's, they give ample opportunity to cancel the service before any increase. You also have the opportunity to downgrade or upgrade. It's even specified in T and C's they may at any time increase or decrease or even reduce amounts allocated.

You knew exactly what you were signing up for, when you verbally/physically signed/agreed to the contract.

Without consent no, you knew exactly what you signed up for and they gave fair warning, a dick move on their part sure.

Is it unreasonable, no....it's a 2L coke or slab chocolate less a month.

They did not explained any of that to me. And I was just stupid enough to not read it. I think they are supposed to tell us about these stupid clauses we sign up for.

I went to a MTN owned store last month to ask about cancelling or bumping up my data. 20GB at R150 (+R20 now ) is not enough. It did fine when I was on 50GB when close to end of allocation period I would burn 30GB.

Stores don't deal with cancellations and I was none the wiser on those penalty costs. They had a decent package for R200 in the brochure with more data. The recent Vodacom deal would have been great as well and maybe well worth the cancellation penalty fees.

Yellotrader will be out today. Wonder if they bumped all packages for new contracts or just for all existing contacts?

I've had a few MTN contracts over the last few years and they've never changed the price of the contract during the 24 month term.

In addition MTN also changed the rules regarding purchasing airtime bundles and then they increased the OOB call rates.

That's quite a few one sided changes in the last 6 months. I decided to cancel and paid a penalty of R700 on the R149 PM contract, that's R551 I don't know what for, anyway I was happy to pay it and get out.

I don't blame MTN for changing the rules about OOB and removing call bundles on a predominantly "DATA SIM". It ended up being a sort of loophole for people. Yes it was nice, but considering I used it as a "DATA SIM" no problems from my side.

No they aren't obligated to do ANY thing, they are obligated to tell you that there are T and C's which you can read online/fax/physical at your leisure and should you not agree with the T and C's cancel it at any time during the "cooling off period" without penalty.

In store you can have and do get a physical copy of the T and C's, legally you are entitled to block out any section which you do not agree with, if MTN/Representative accepts the copy of the T and C's with blocked out sections of the T and C's it will be legally binding.

Secondly they are obligated to make sure the term and conditions are easy to understand and read, other then that, they aren't obligated to do any thing other then tell you that there are terms and conditions and that you have free access to them at any time.

So honestly.........still blaming MTN for not doing your job........is exactly what MTN is banking on.

So MTN has you on retainer, how much do they pay??

There is a difference between defending them and their practices and pointing out the obvious..... :)
Like hell am I going to defend that or ANY mobile network or company for that matter period.

Just rather annoying and a fing constant irritation(About the same as a child in a store constantly wailing away and the parent(s) ignoring the child, and just have to keep on grinding on your teeth, actually had a really bad day recently, child wailing away, and shouted shut the f up after 15minutes of constant wailing.) People don't bother reading what they are signing up for are about the same as that child, after 15th time of people complaining about this or that.Yet they have NO problem paying R5 or R6 every year more for a bottle of brandy, whiskey.

God forbid a mobile service provider actually does some thing that their terms and conditions allows them to do, which you agreed to in the first place, and THEN proceed to blame every thing and any thing other then their own ignorance and stupidity........YEAH you can bet your sweet ass I will the defend that, not the company just ideology of you get what you deserve for not reading the T and C's like you should....

Yeah, I get your point but I think we just want to vent, it is scummy practice as the common practice for 24month contracts is a fixed monthly cost.

Off topic: BTW, You are actually doing exactly what you are against, you are defending a company against internet trolls on the place where they come to moan and agree to moan. You are currently telling the child to shut the f up knowing well that you signed up for it, cmon pal, if you want logical debate and justified Ts and Cs go join debate club. This is the internet, if I want to anonamously say F MTN for their crummy practices, I can and am justified to do so and you are in the wrong for defending it because it irritates you. Just food for thought.

I find it rather, ironic and moronic with regards to most things on the internet forums. You can moan and groan all you want, but the moment some one jumps the fence. The collective that moans and groans grab their pitch forks and torches.

No, again you are one of the guys that don't bother reading the terms and conditions, show me exactly where it says that the cost is "fixed" for the entire term without provisions the fact that MTN mentions on EVERY single deal terms and conditions applies isn't scummy, IT IS you who is at fault for not bothering or interpreting what "fixed" means, and then wanting to moan about some thing you don't grasp or don't bother understanding.I bet there isn't a single instance where MTN mentions that the price you pay is "fixed" without applying Terms and conditions to it.

If people can gripe about some thing they don't understand or who are wrong for the most part, I can gripe equally about those specific people all I want, this hostility towards any one not joining the collective sheeple in complaining about some thing they have never bothered reading or understand, isn't only hilarious it is even more incentive to point out just how wrong you are in general.

It is even more hilarious how you fail to grasp the concepts of the english language in general and in particular the word "forum", perhaps you should look up the definition. Perhaps we can have a forum and debate the subject matter, much like the romans did with their backs to the wall just in case you decide to get stabby. In case you fail to get the last part, I pretty much proved my point then and the irony will be entirely lost on you.

But keep at it, I am having a spade yard sale, and need a swimming pool dug before summer starts.

Also just got my increase now. The thing that pisses me off was that they announced these increases about a month or 2 after I signed up.

Yup, my gripe is that everything went up, medical aid, MTN, food, rent etc. But not the salary.

Off the topic here. I’m currently on the 299 package and everyday between 5.30 and 10pm, I’m unable to open any media on my device, Facebook, whatsapp, Instagram etc. does anybody else have similar issues?
