MTN Black Friday Discussions

this person calls me back when i email

[email protected]

I emailed her and she called me back to discuss options.

No new package was offered other than what was already posted in the thread, "best" was the 150 + 150 @ R399. So I don't think there will be BF specific retention deals.

My contract ends on the 11th so I asked about upgrading to some small package and then upgrading again on BF when those deals come out. She said I can do that but there will be a R150 charge to upgrade each time.

If I don't upgrade, the contract jumps to R1299/month (this is the 400 + 400 BF 2020 deal).

I'm going to "upgrade" to the 200GB @R399 month-month deal that's on the app instead of wasting R300 on fees.

From the Ts&Cs, that should have no upgrade fees for migrating to a VLC deal if something better pops up on BF. The data from the plan should also carry over to the new contract:

6. Upgrade Rules

6.1 MTN Month To Month Customer can upgrade their price plan to a Variable Length Contract (VLC) price plan at any time with no penalties. A new Variable Length Contract billing profile will be created for them. Any unused value will be carried over if compatible with their new Variable Length Contract (VLC) price plan.
6.2 MTN may impose a Credit Limit on the above Qualifying Customer when the Qualifying Customer applies for one of the variable length contract terms that is, 6 (six), 12 (twelve), 18 (eighteen), 24 (twenty-four) or 36 (thirty-six). MTN will in its sole and absolute discretion determine the Credit Limit. Customers can set their own limits on their accounts and the maximum of the Customer Limit will be the Credit Limit set by MTN. The Customer Usage Limit can be set via the self-help channels - i.e. (MyMTNApp, IVR on 135).
6.3 Existing MTN Customers will be able upgrade to the MTN Month To Month plans if they are eligible for an early upgrade (settled their outstanding device charges in full for the remaining month of their existing contract term) or are Out of Contract. A new Month To Month billing profile will be created for them.

She made herself very clear about the R150 charge, mentioned it a few times.

I didn't get offered a 400GB package even after telling her that 150GB is too small and I won't use the night data.

spoke to retentions now and he said the same thing , only 150+150 for r309 or something

the guy then tells me there is a r73 package but never said anything about r150 charge

so "upgrade" to the r73 package and when you want to cancel its 1 month they charge you for and whatevr extra on your account

has anyone ever cancelled and that happened ?

cos its sim only

Got 2 offers from MTN today to upgrade:

R599 x 36 = 50gb anytime data & unlimited minutes ( basically my same contract with less data and for R50 more )
R260 x 36 = 60gb day + 60gb night no minutes
do you have the deal code for the 50GB + unlimited minutes?

I just upgraded to a R126 package. 24gb day and 24gb night. Waiting for the BF deals. The R73 package was only 4gb day and 4gb night, too little to carry me till the 16th. Hopefully the deals are released by then. My contract expires on the 11th so upgraded today as they're closed on weekends.

Thanks, I just did. Apparently it will continue to be R88 minus the 10GB (its actually 1GB+10GB, 100minutes, 50 SMS)

Edit: I was offered to continue with it same price for 24months (R127) or 36months(R88)
So this is the same deal you currently on(minutes and data),just extended. If that's true, it will be awesome, we can all do that?

so you all are upgrading your contracts and then going to upgrade again for the BF packages?

Yes, its the same deal I am currently on. 1GB (+10GB addon), 100min, 50 SMS for R88. I can retain it for either 36months at R88 or 24months for R127.

Its still fine for me, my greediness is saying wait for new BF deals

thats the sad life , if there isnt any good BF deals we need to cancel
but cancelling a +-R80 package ois cheaper than a +-R1000 package

we have till tomorrow to upgrade or cancel if anyone wants to

the lady told me there isnt a R74 but a R84 package

AFAIK, cooling off period is only applicable for direct marketing, such as telemarketers. Could be wrong though
