MTN Black Friday Discussions

I have also just done my upgrade as my contract expires on the 12th. The following deals were available.

MyMTN Choice 4gb - 2gb anytime, 2gb night time, PLUS 10gb anytime PROMO and 500min all network - R106/pm for 24 months. (might have miss typed this one)
MyMTN Choice 20gb - 10gb anytime, 10gb night time, PLUS 10gb anytime PROMO and 500min all network - R179/pm for 24 months. (again, might have got the name wrong)
MyMTN Choice 60gb - 20gb anytime, 20gb night time, PLUS 20gb anytime PROMO and 500min all network - R260/pm for 24 months. 2023054 CT 09437 DG

Anytime data is only data that can be shareable (base contract data). BUT, this being MTN, I will have to wait and see what they load on the 12th. What they explain and what they load has differed quite drastically in the past.

So I called and got some offers from retentions, she wasn't willing to give me deal codes but I expect most people in retentions would be able to see these.

R160PM - 36 Months - 525mins, 17GB data
R106PM - 36 Months - 100mins, 22GB data
R84PM - 36 Months - 125mins 12GB data
R522PM - 36 Months - 4500mins, 90GB data, 400 smses a day, unlimited MTN calls

Also if you're not getting a device it makes sense to just get the 36 month contract, the 24 month contracts cost a bit more for the same offer and the cancellation policy is the same - 1 month penalty

Seems like that. Thing for me is I am on the road mostly so these Fixed LTE deals are useless to me. Need a 200 to 300 Gb day time deal. Otherwise might be time to say goodbye to MTN

yeah we have the 400gb cos mum uses 1 at home
and about 6 sims are in phones and tablets that roam around

are these retentions deals only though ?

Yes, they're quite decent too, like the deal with 4500 mins is a boosted sky silver contract that usually costs R950 but with 50gb of data rather than the 90gb from this retentions deal. I don't think there are gonna be any decent data deals. I think I'm going to have to cancel my 500gb+500gb contract and just take the 200gb one for R400

I emailed her and she called me back to discuss options.

No new package was offered other than what was already posted in the thread, "best" was the 150 + 150 @ R399. So I don't think there will be BF specific retention deals.

My contract ends on the 11th so I asked about upgrading to some small package and then upgrading again on BF when those deals come out. She said I can do that but there will be a R150 charge to upgrade each time.

If I don't upgrade, the contract jumps to R1299/month (this is the 400 + 400 BF 2020 deal).

I'm going to "upgrade" to the 200GB @R399 month-month deal that's on the app instead of wasting R300 on fees.

From the Ts&Cs, that should have no upgrade fees for migrating to a VLC deal if something better pops up on BF. The data from the plan should also carry over to the new contract:

Hi. Just wanted to check, when you say 150 + 150, is that 150 anytime data and 150 nighttime data?

did anyone get told there is a R150 upgrade fee ?

apparently this is normal now and even if done early there is a fee ...weird ..always had upgrades as free

i said let me do it now and can always query it after

I was told no upgrade fee now but I will be charged a small upgrade fee when/if I move to the new BF contract next week.
