MTN Black Friday Discussions

Last month I got a 20GB anytime data contract for R129 from MTN after my contract neared its end,
I specifically didn't want their Mobile Silver contract for 6GB anytime data and 15GB streaming data.
After my first payment cycle I got a SMS that my contract is now re-provisioned to the Silver version.

I am now waiting for their reply after they got a stinking email from my side on a one-sided contract change.
You're in for a long wait

MTN IS FCCKING RETARDED.

Decided to phone them on Monday finally to get an upgrade done, as it is a month before my contract is finish. Decided to get the same package I was on again, with the price increase attached via rententions.

I am happy to pay the R419 from the R353 I was paying for the same amount of data 250gig I can't do less as that is what I need a months. Nor do I want their BS streaming packages WTF am I suppose to do with 100gig streaming data, it is useless and they artificially increased the price of the packages for that 100gig useless streaming data.

MY credit limit was 400 so they needed to increase it by R19.00. The R19.00 increase declines apparently MTN agent reported apparently have been declined for one rand ONE FCKING RAND. They were happy to give me a lower package but not the one that is slightly above my credit limit.

The package was 150 gig for 389. The FCKING absolute kicker when MTN do their annual increase it would automatically push the new price past their credit limit they have given me.

Declined over the price of a bread.........how absolutely ridiculous can you get. More annoyingly I have an 100% perfect payment record too, I pay my account 3 weeks in advance manually so I don't get stuck with debits orders I personally hate the stuff. ( I wouldn't put it past them that this may be an issue with their system that not a single debit order has gone off)

So yeah decided I am not taking this lying down, explained to ChatGPT what is going on, and help me write a reply email, then various AI agents scrape the internet for EVERY single public email on record it could find, addresses whether it was relevant to the query or not and email bombed the **** out of them.

Seriously how hard is it to manually review small amounts, check the profile and see, okay low risk client go ahead.

If they don't my options are limited to getting a monthly prepaid MTNsuperdata price plan and pay R499 for 200gig.

MTN rubbed me the wrong way on this one.

That's really weird, I had the identical issue last year when doing my upgrade.
The amount was also around R400 and just over my "credit limit", which ironically was actually less than the contract I was upgrading from. I also have a flawless credit history with a very high credit score, the banks are always trying to give me massive credit increases but MTN says no R400 is the max we can give.

What a massive pita it was to get that resolved, about 4 or 5 different agents tried to sort it out, all of them couldn't understand why the system wouldn't allow such a tiny discrepancy from the limit to be passed, they said a small difference like that is always allowed, especially if you have been a long time customer with a good payment history. Eventually it got escalated to someone higher up and then someone else and even then it took a good while to get sorted.

There is some weird glitch happening and as usual MTN just throws it’s customers under the bus.
That whole process took many many wasted hours of my time and much stress and bs to resolve.
That was the second or third time MTN fked up an upgrade and wasted huge amounts of my time, they are one of the most pernicious companies to deal with. Totally incompetent and despite being a customer for over 10yrs they'll still gladly hang you out to dry.

Honestly, MTN needs to get its act together. The left hand clearly has no idea what the right hand is doing, and as a customer, I am tired of being caught in the middle of your internal communication failures. I have made every reasonable effort to get this matter resolved, yet all I keep getting is that someone will look into it, with no actual solution or meaningful progress.

At this point, it is no longer about the R19. It is about the complete lack of urgency, accountability, and customer service over an amount that would take the credit limit from R400 to just R419. I should not have to spend this much time chasing different departments to resolve something so straightforward.

I have given MTN more than enough opportunity to rectify the situation, but I cannot keep waiting indefinitely while your departments pass the matter around without anyone taking ownership. I have reached the point where I would rather cancel my contract than continue dealing with this level of incompetence.

Monday, 12 October, is my final deadline. If this matter has not been resolved by then, I will proceed with my formal 30-day cancellation notice. I have tried my best to resolve this amicably, but I am done accepting vague promises that the matter will be investigated while nothing actually gets done.

If MTN is willing to lose a paying customer over R19 and a failure to coordinate internally, then so be it. I have made my position perfectly clear, and I will not be extending the deadline or entertaining further delays. Either resolve the matter by Monday or accept that I will be ending the contractual relationship.
The 200G super data is now R549, BTW.
and yes this will be my route next month over fcking R19,00 they refuse to increase.... fck em at this point I have tried every matter of resolve and they are like ummm errrr your order was cancelled.....because we declined to increase your credit limit by 19 rand, fkck em......I have better things to do over the next 24 months,,,,

Have you considered one of the Cool Ideas 5G products ? 300GB FUP @R259pm or 450GB FUP @R359pm. You can choose between MTN (location locked) or Vodacom (not locked). No contracts, no debit orders. They also offer a discounted unlocked ZTE G5TS 5G router for R750 for new signups. My CI/Vodacom service has performed very well over the last year.

That is the fck up and why trying so hard to retain my current package as I am in a rural area, the options are limited to 4G or fck all, it is either vodacom or MTN the rest all roam here, otherwise I would have gotten telkom data ages ago for their own network data.

There is some wireless dish providers here but it is like R699 for uncapped data with FUP and speeds of 5mbps/2mbps for the price not too bad but speed wise yeah no thanks. I will rather watch paint dry.

The best offer MTN had for me under the credit limit was 150gig for R389, meaning I am paying R40 odd more for 100 gig less. Which means it is a downgrade instead of an upgrade.

If you can't provide the same amount or more data it isn't an upgrade, you are forcing me into a corner, to try and get me to upgrade.

MTN decided it would be a great idea to go hard with the streaming data packages, knowing full well and a vast majority of users aren't even going to use that aspect of the data, and essentially increased all their package prices as well.

Plus MTN and Vodacom has quite similar data packages with the exception of the streaming. Vodacom's best offer is 100gig anytime and 100gig night owl for R299.00

This package is way better than any offer MTN has.

IDK why but in recent years both MTN and vodacom offers has been steadily going down in value and up in price.

So yeah I rather go prepaid pay the R549 for the 200gig superdata package. I just need to move a couple of things around my budget to get the extra R160 odd bucks, already found the money for that, by closing my ABSA current account which costs me R158 a month which I have been threatening to close for a couple of months closing that **** on Monday as I essentially moved over to FNB eons ago.

But don't worry FNB has been trying their best to upgrade my account to an aspire account as well. Already told them you fcking touch my account I fcking walk, on their most basic savings account which is like 10 bucks a month.

The only reason I haven't closed my ABSA accounts entirely is my funeral policy is with them and my mom is on that policy, I can't get cover for her else where, well I can, but I won't get more than 8k - 10k cover and it will cost an arm and a leg. Her current funeral cover is 30k and for the both of us is R219 a month.

A bit off topic but in a way I am entirely fed up with the way companies have been rinsing south african in all manner of services.

So yeah I rather go prepaid and pay more than settle for the shitty downgrade offers from MTN.

So yeah mtn fck you !!!!!!!!!!!!

As a last ditch effort I can try with MTN is to wait for blackfriday.....not really hopefull and the problem is have to give mtn 30 days notice on monday, or else I will have to pay the motherfckers R353 next month for a downgraded package as the promotional data will fall away since it is an internet ruby package it will be 100gig only.....

So damn of you do, damn if you don't. If you want loyalty buy a dog.
