These guys at MTN keep on saying "switch off your phone, take out the battery and wait for five minutes" - I'm getting tired of this now

I also have the same problem I am stating to dislike MTN with no offense to anyone I think its time for change. I can't do anything I can't open main browser, I can't open links its very annoying to think that I pay full R60 and get poor service this is unlike MTN or totaly the MTN I knew. If the problem still persist I won't activate it on I'm going to get another provider the time for change is now that's if the problem is not solved by the time of my activation

Mine also says sim not provisioned. MTN call center has a automated msg saying engineers are working on a major network issue.

As far as I know you're not really supposed to be downloading files on BIS - it's a browsing service - i.e. you're allowed to browse websites but not allowed things like video streaming/file downloads etc. What's your facebook experience like?

I'm paying for a BB 9300 with 3G and BIS. Lately my BIS disconnects on its own. When it is connected, download speeds are below 1Kb/s,averaging at about 300 B/s (that's Bits per second!). Helpdesk spews the usual "remove your battery" nonsense. I think MTN is purposely throttling all users because of the minority of users that they term as "abusers"

My contact is up in 2 months. Going to cancel and revert to pay as you go option. No way in hell I'm signing up for another 24 months of non-existant service.

Grrrr! EMPTY-N

i recently spoke the the blackberry customer technicians and they have confirmed that mtn blackberry users WILL NOT BE ABLE download any files anymore using their cellphones. i have taken a look at their recently updated terms and conditions and it they made a statement regarding this. i dont know about you guys but i intend on fighting this rubbish as my contract with them is not subject to such nonsense.

The whole problem is providers were pushing and promoting Blackberry handsets WAY too much. Now there are more blackberries live than the BIS network can handle. The network is just too saturated. Now nothing works properly. Now if you're looking for a business phone number, you can literally type in your handset browser www.google.com, put the phone down, grab the yellow pages, look up the number, make the call, end the call and when you return to your blackberry, google hasn't even loaded yet. Out of pure desperation to make browsing and texting less of a headache, they are doing what oreoK said they are doing.

I heard this too. I would rather be able to at least browse than nothing working at all like it is now. Anyway, RIM will be dead in South Africa when the rest of the masses learn about this decision.

Hi ppl..I think they feeling the pinch of free internet...virgin mobile has started capping downloads...for those who don't know capping is ...providers limit the amount of downloads you can make on bis...virgin has a 1gig cap...now I think Mtn are limiting the speed so that less downloads can take place..I get only a speed of 3kbs...

1gig cap? bloody hell no wonder the service is a nightmare. most people have no idea how they screwing up the performance for the rest.
