Hi im planning on getting a blackberry as my contract has lapsed, what is the general feeling of the BIS service, as blackberry wasnt my first chice for a phone, but if the bis service is decent it will defnitly sway me to the blackberry camp. Thx in advance.

Are you planning on going for another contract or prepaid?

VC has BB BIS for prepaid @ R59 per month.
Don't think MTN has the same product.

Im renewing my contract, from a procall 220 i think it was, as these are no longer available i will be getting they anytime 750.

MTN has a similar package to the Vodacom one.
The Vodacom one has got serious performance issues at the moment (I am unfortunately on the Vodacom one).
There are a few threads in the Vodacom section about this.

BIS on MTN has slowed down quite a bit over the last month but it is still MUCH faster than Vodacom's. My fiance has a blackberry on Vodacom and I have one with MTN. I used to get 30KB/s average in work hours and 80-100KB/s at night but now its about 15KB/s during the day and 30-40KB/s at night. Still usable but a very disappointing reduction in bandwidth speeds.

My phone is for business and the idea was to have access to my email if im out the office all day, Prob this new cheap ass 8520 thats been released has had a huge uptake so, methinks thats the cause off the slowdown.

I also use BIS on mtn. My BIS wasnt activated immediately but after a few phone calls it was sorted. the BIS works well, but remember you dont get free internet if you connect via computer.

Phonejunky, (or someone else) what numbers did you call to get it activated? I called the helpdesk, they put me on to 1555 who put me on to accounts but its supposed to be free so why accounts...?
They sent me a COMPLETELY outdated form - still lists all the old packages and none of the new ones...
Thanks

basically what im trying to figure out is the service quik or not? as a small business, will it be worth my while or not, i dont like the balckberry phones in particular, so i would take it purely for this service if it works well. Am i better off going with another phone? and gettng a data bundle also can one use a data bundle on your same sim card or do you need a dual sim card phone?

I cant remember, but then I had to fax something and it was allot of slep, so I just went to the mtn in Mall at the Reds in Centurion and they phoned everyone and sorted it all out. It is supposed to work out of the box if the BIS is included

Hmm well so far nothing has worked the way its supposed to :-(
Was also told i would happen automatically by the guy in the shop but that's not the case and went I went there yesterday he said he'd only be able to do something today... Its always "tomorrow' with these folks it seems!

BIS would be brilliant if it wasn't for the performance issues, on both VC and MTN. Sitting after a meeting yesterday two guys tested loading the same page, one on a Nokia E75 on VC 3G, the other on a 8520 on MTN BIS. Took the guy on the 8520 almost four time as long...

divv, Uhmm it is 1555 if I can remember correctly.

1555 and 808 didnt agree on some things so I had to reactive my BIS

@Antonf, I never had any performance issues under MTN BIS. I just had activation issues. I know that my bold renders pages longer than the curve, which makes it allot slower...

Can you download any files one your phone with BIS? Like a 100mb file?

He probably wants to know if any one can use BIS - from any phone? That's the closest question I can come up with.

On my question, some phones like Nokia can used BIS, I just don't know what all the phones are..

MTN doubled capacity to RIM on Wednesday.
